This is what I don't understand. How in the hell do you close your military base even if we take Pelosi at her word that they knew it was "possible" the Taliban could re-take Kabul.
We obviously still had thousands of Americans on the ground in Kabul, let alone other sensitive resources, Afghan allies, etc.
This is nothing more or less than our dipshit President* ignored intelligence, and botched this at every step of the way, now caught with their pants down and thousands of American lives on the line, they are trying to scramble to control the damage.
Too, late. It's done. Those Americans who cannot get to the airport will be found, captured, tortured, and killed in the most heinous of ways by the Taliban and this administration will have the blood of these people all over its hands.
I've never been more disgusted with my country and its leadership than I am now. This is the most egregious of foreign policy blunders in this country's history and at this moment in time, we are still not doing near enough to get our people home.
I'm legitimately shaken to my core over this. This is unacceptable and should never have happened. Those poor Americans who cannot get to the airport have a fate awaiting them that is unconscionable. It never had to be this way.
Regardless of how you identify politically, this will go down as one of the darkest moments in America's history -- and it was our "leadership" that signed the death warrants of these Americans.
All this. I’m with you man. I think I’m more upset about this than 9/11 even if I’m nowhere near as shocked by this. 2400+ Americans were killed in this war, and it is now on the table that more Americans will die evacuating the country than in the entirety of the 20 year war. Biden is probably the single worst foreign policy politician in American history and is now certainly the worst President.

Not sure why the runway wasn’t surrounded by barbed wire fences like a max security prison to keep people off the runway.

Perhaps I'm missing something. What is the issue with evacuating service dogs?

Someone needs to do a "Miss me yet?" meme with Carter on it.

Stick the dogs in the back of a truck and load them onto the plane or do it under the cover of night.
I mean, you’re correct. It just seems that nothing else about this was planned out so it should be no surprise they are just loading up the dogs to gtfo.

Afghani Gov't SHARED lists of those who helped Americans before surrendering?

Optics, mainly. You're leaving people who helped us behind in favor of a dog, which Afghans and Muslims do not value as we tend to do.

Just saw that German reinforcements had to land in Uzbekistan because they couldn't get land in Kabul. Why did we ever abandon Bagram? We could be doing rooftop pickups all day and night in Kabul and at the airport.
Because this is the most corrupt and incompetent administration since Buchanan.

There are reports that we aren't evacuating Afghani Allies. Leaving them to die. While dogs are getting help.

American military aircraft don't need and prefer no light.
What they do need is a clear runway, though. Can you imagine the utter chaos if we lose a C-130 on the runway because it sucks up Afghanis into its engines while landing?
EDIT: It would be like (chaos)^2. And yes, I'm aware of my mistake, but it's too late to change it now.

They are sitting on the runway. I don't think we need to to have planes landing and killing dozens of people with blood and guts all over the landing strip at this point. The situation is already FUBAR we don't need to add another lovely element to the visuals coming out of Kabul.

And rightly so. Dogs should not take precedence over humans.

You are correct in this instance, but I can think of some examples where I'm rescuing the dog and not Pelo...... um a person.
You're both wrong. Those are MWDs and as such have a rank higher than even some soldiers (and I say that as a vet and father of a current soldier). They aren't some stray on the street.

Well, that's more likely to happen with a C-17 since a C-130 is a prop plane, but I get your point.

I even looked it up before I posted that to see which one was the turbofan and which one was the turboprop and even after being given the information, I did it wrong.
Yeah, I totally Bidened that one.

Because we abandoned our base that actually had a max security prison and airfield and evacuated to this airport that only has 1 runway. Oh, and the Taliban released all the prisoners we left there, too.

It was surrounded but it was overwhelmed by the crowds who ran over the wire.
