I mean, at this juncture would it not be less distasteful to drop HOWEVER MANY troops it takes BACK in to retake Kabul and get our people out?

Well, considering the C-130 is a prop aircraft it would be a miracle to "suck up a human" its turbo air intake is on the lower side of the engine behind the spinning prop.

They're trying to do this but they can't land.

So troops going house to house, having no idea who is friendly and who is foe with zero intelligence (since we'd be leaving, who the hell would help us) against an enemy who wants to kill us on religious AND defense grounds? Yeah that's gonna happen.

They are probably going to drop them on the airport, and run missions to grab as many people as they can, but even the best weapons and training can't handle wave after wave of pissed off extremists who just have to push through once.

Apparently you aren't familiar with the dogs in the military. Most are smarter than your average human and are astronomically more valuable than the average infantryman.

While morbid, the image of this in my head of this happening is mildly amusing.

Would they just come out in a bunch of pink chunks? Has this ever happened?

Just saw a video cut on CNN showing what appeared to be a body falling from the 17 that took off during the daylight. Fell to the runway from around 200 feet I would say.

Such a bizarre situation. What happens if a plane gets disabled and they can't get it off the runway? Are there even tugs at the airport to push the planes around? Leaving Bagram in the middle of the night without even telling the Afghan government is the worst tactical decision made by an American since Pickett's Charge.

If it were a C-130 it would be like the Indiana Jones scene. Its a turbo prop aircraft.

If they got sucked up in a C-17 (highly unlikely as that engine is about 15-20 feet in the air) they would destroy the engine and likely some would come out as pink chunks, but not all. The crew chief having to replace that engine would be mad as hell.

There’s no telling what is going on in that city right now. I’ve seen 3 people hung and one woman beaten within an inch of her life, but no telling what these violent thugs will do, especially the teenagers who have only known life under American occupation.

There were disabled aircraft all over that airport. We had to clear them to get any flights out.

I meant that as they're trying to secure the airport, not that they're going to try and retake all of Kabul.

That ship has sailed.

At this juncture I would not be surprised to the Biden Administration order the Coast Guard fly in to help with the evacuation. j/k but not really based on what we are seeing

That’s what I figured. Has there ever been an incident like that where a plane had to land on a crowded runway?

Seems counterproductive. Still probably better than getting captured by Taliban.

These planes/jets have infrared (thermal) imaging capability. They will know if people are on the runway or not while descending. If dipshites run onto the runway while plane lands or takes off then there isn't much we can do about that besides have troops posted around the tarmac with a possible shoot to kill or warn order.
