Yep, always look on the bright side of life

These days one has to.

Had the hyperinflation discussion with my FIL since he lived through it in the 80's. People were paying off house loans with a single paycheck, but had trouble buying groceries.

Why should he? All he's done is manipulate it to make his buddies richer.

If AI pans out, when will we start seeing its contribution to stock market valuations? I can't wait since all we've experienced is inflation.

You’ve already seen much of it. Here are the top six companies as a percentage of total publicly traded market cap:

1960 20%
1980 9%
2000 22%
2026 70%

These six companies are not doing very different from the top six in those other years when it comes to earnings as a percentage of total earnings or total value added as a percentage of GDP.

Sure. Why not.

I think every President dating back to at least Clinton has had the stock market reach a historical high during his tenure.

Can you let me know when this will take place? I've heard this from multiple "experts" for over a year now.

Probably within the next 12 months. The big 4 (Meta, Amazon, Google, Apple) are overextending entering into the trillions of dollars. At best, one or two wins and the others tank. At worse, AI won't offer the value promised and LLMs have reached their limits on exponential returns and it all goes boom.

I personally think the entire enterprise is being propped up by the government in line with these big four so that they can create an economy in which banking can be controlled (think social credit scoring), and therefore people can be controlled when the economy starts to become more unstable.

My “covid was a scam and the vaccine was a lie” tingle is increasing the more I think about AI

Trump could single handedly spike fuel prices, tax consumers with tarrifs until the courts stop him, turbo charge the big government surveillance state, & accelerate the out of control national debt & MAGA still would blame Biden for all of it and give Trump a pass. TDS is a disease.

Our whole society is diseased (by design) into camps that cheer for “their team” and we are, therefore, unable to articulate or stand for our own independent values.

We cheer for people, not ideas. Which makes us stupid.

I only buy stocks directly with the company and hold (DRIP) and I watch and record growth by the month. I have yearly totals for the last 20 years. I've made big gains every year except two. Those 2 significant loss years were 2015 (Obama) and 2022 (Biden). Coincidence? Perhaps.

The fake conservative rinos on here brag about how their portfolio goes up 10% a year even though inflation is 40% a year

The real American conservatives on here know that the only thing that can save this country is a civil war or some other cataclysm

When was this?

Just looking back at mine personally, probably during cumulative year of 2022. However, 2021 and 2023, so years prior to election year, should have grown, unless he/she had a piss poor management company or plan. Gains should have been had in 2021, 2023 and 2024.

Since you are not even considering 2 of the top 3 AI models, I'm not sure I can trust your analysis.

We've had tech bubbles that burst before. We all survived, and now the market is even higher. Hell, we were told Facebook was dying because of Twitter at one point. Now, they're one of 4 companies destined to become one of our overlords, according to you. What happened with that?

There might be a market correction for AI companies, but all the companies lowering costs by using AI will still be going strong.

This doomsday scenario that the economy is going to crash so hard that the government has to become authoritarian to prevent civil unrest is ludicrous. It's nothing but a fantasy for the easily panicked.
