Building these AI date centers are providing a lot of construction and other jobs.

It's not really killing the middle class like the fear mongers would have you believe

First, I’d love for AI to be able to replace me. Unfortunately it’s not capable of that.
Second, you realize the work culture we have now is only about 100 years old? Who’s to say this should be a permanent part of the human existence? Society will become far more wealthier if people have more free time. Time is the most valuable of all commodities—it’s finite and it can never be replaced.

We stop, and China wins
In general other countries are not of concern if 20% of our population can’t put food on the table

Free time to do what? Enjoy your barely subsistence level income so generously bestowed to you by the AI owners? Provided they don’t choose to let the masses starve on the streets.

Stop medical research its putting doctors out of work!

Sure man, we’ll stop AI and let the Chinese develop it so they can dominate us the way they do the Uyghurs.

This is a big concern across many fields. I see doctors, lawyers, marketing, engineering, software engineers being impacted.
This will then trickle down to small business owners, restaurants, and service industry as less people will have the income to spend at these places.
AI can be useful, I think as a supplement to industry and fields, but we all know these companies will want to replace the worker and make the AI do it all.

AI has been around for a while.
You probably use it daily and don’t think twice about it.

I imagine unions are going to be really important again...
In white collar...

Data Center resource use?
The data center resource requirements, as it applies to electricity & water consumption, is an interesting issue. Studies are showing surrounding communities are paying more for their utilities where these centers are being established.
I attended a town hall this past Saturday AM where our local district State Senator (REP) spoke about this topic. He said our NC legislature is looking at ways to hold these data centers accountable for enhancing the infrastructure requirements, similar to what is required for a home development when it comes to water run-off, streets, etc. I hope they are successful.
This is an item I hope does not get 'wished away' as it will impact communities if it is not developed properly.

If you want to live under an Ai godlike power that was trained on the ethics of Mao, then all you've got to do is stop working on Ai and that's what's going to end up happening.

These were the same fears you heard about white collar jobs when the PC was first invented. Businesses evolve.

No. No we are not.
Stuff changes so you can’t stop technology from “stealing jobs.”
