How is this any different than a pitcher taking himself out of a game where he just doesn't have his stuff? You have teammates for a reason. Give them an opportunity if you can't do it for whatever reason.
It honestly baffles me that this has brought out so many intense emotions on this board. The people upset with her likely wouldn't have "enjoyed" or "celebrated" her winning a gold medal in the first place.

Because next man up doesn't apply in the Olympics. The person is watching this happen, probably some girl that may never have a chance again. Not everyone is blessed like Biles to be great and continuously be at the top in the sport.

Don’t forget there are people on this earth who killed a soccer player because he made a mistake that cost their team an important win.

If she has a legit mental health diagnosis, I sympathize. We may never know due to HIPPA and privacy laws. If she's over there hearing voices, then yeah, time to get out and focus on mental health.
But I don't think that's what's happening. It sounds to me like mere stress, which is no excuse to quit. Being a top athlete is stressful - that's normal.

That said, I have no criticism to offer on Biles. Her decision. The clowns cheering on the act of quitting and celebrating as something greater than a victory are perverse.

Biles is no normal athlete. They literally have had promos of her hanging out with a fricking goat. This isn't some third rate swimmer tapping out, this is the premier Olympic athlete for America quitting. This is Michael Jordan walking out on the Dream Team at halftime in the Gold Metal Game. This is Phelps pulling himself out of the pool halfway through a swim because he is behind. This is Kevin Durant flying back home after losing to France.
