No, you're right, I don't, I haven't seen the movie. I did read the originally translated Homer books twice, once in high school again as an adult.
My comment has to do with the obvious progressive staffing decisions for the main characters.
I mean, Helen is ugly and butch instead of soft and beautiful; Menelaus is small, comedic and young instead of the old bull warrior he is described; and Paris is a 100 pound trans instead of the warrior Hector's younger brother. It's off putting and unnecessary.
If you dig this kind of degraded misappropriation in the arts then by all means have at it. I just find all the obvious race/sex swaps tiresome at this point. That's no way to treat a classic.
What next, Shakespeare's titles but now - wait for it - Julius Caesar is a snarky black lesbian and Mark Anthony is the 100 pound trans?

Most people find a dull and boring. Those that like it are star struck with the cast and the director. It’s actually a very mid movie.
I can tell that from the casting, as well as the previews of the movie for what it is supposed to be it fails miserably.

Both ignorant and dumb.
Number 1 if you had read it twice you would know that Paris dies in the Iliad. The odyssey is after the Trojan war.
Number 2. If you actually looked into the movie you would know Kevin Hart is not in the movie. Menalaus is played by Jon Bernthal
Number 3. The trans actor’s role is one who is nothing but a gopher for Odysseus and a weakling for a solider who is made to sacrifice their life without a fight by being tricked into giving their life up for the cause.
Not Paris. Not Achilles. Not a grand warrior. She’s goes down instantly without a fight.

Again, I concede I haven't seen it but will when it comes to tv. And if these obvious cultural misappropriations are your thing then by all means have at it.

They do. It's Best Original/Adapted Screenplay. Scarface was completely snubbed by the Academy though. It's not an original story so it would've been in the Best Adapted Screenplay category against Terms of Endearment and that movie won all the awards that year. It never had a chance. It helped put Oliver Stone on the map though.

I haven't seen anyone suggest the movie is awesome just because it's drawing big numbers. Usually it's a counter to "this is a failure." How do measure that? You're in here arguing out of both sides of your mouth on that score.

I'm looking very forward to seeing this-am not going to read this thread or any reviews-and make my mind up for myself. Christopher Nolan has certainly earned my trust-being one of the few directors out there who makes film for adults.

Read The Shining by Stephen King. A masterpiece of horror. The movie can't do the book justice. It's difficult to take a book that takes days to read and compress it into a 2 hour long story. The movie, while a classic and well done changes a huge amount of the story to do this. My initial reaction to the movie was a bit of disappointment. Some of the supernatural beings in the book were left out and the visuals in your mind from the descriptions in the book are so vividly accounted for that I can understand why changes were necessary.
But that doesn't change the fact that this movie, The Odyssey, makes UNNECESSARY changes only to appease woke Hollywood. That's a shame.
I don't mind a bit of storyline compression but outright changing races to tell a different story is cultural appropriation, something Woke is opposed to... unless, of course, they're the ones doing the appropriating.

Captain Marvel (1.131 billion) was extremely mid, but benefited greatly from when it was released and how it fit into the MCU. How many Academy Awards did it win?

Everything I’ve read about The Odyssey
suggests Nolan has made another expertly crafted epic film of grand proportions. Woke issues have not been noticed at all.

As I said, box office numbers are cited here as a counter to the "this will be a failure" claim. No one here is using the box office numbers to discuss the artistic merits of the film.
