You were told correctly. The Civil Rights Act passed in 1964. And as you can see the Republicans started rebelling.
In 1968, they had someone running who was against integration so he won the southern vote.
In 1972, George Wallace was shot otherwise, he would've won the south again. Southern Democrats didn't like the new "hippy" nominee so they stuck with the devil they knew.
And in 1976, as you seen already, the Democrats returned to "normal" and elected Jimmy Carter. Then 1980 came around and the Republican party changed for good after Reagan.

Pretty much. I say cut them off at 75 or maybe even 70. But they can finish out their term if elected before the cutoff age. Nobody cares what the senior citizens think who won't even be around to see the effects of their policies.
