If you watch the movie, you would understand that her not "fitting the playbill" is exactly what Nolan was going for. There's a reason why he made Helen and her sister twins in the film. He's suggesting that her beauty isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Even Menelaus, her husband, makes something of an observation on this when he is visited by Telemachus in Sparta. He introduces him to his wife Helen with a very sarcastic: "The face that launched a thousand ships." He then shows Telemachus the left side of her face, which has been disfigured, before sneering: "Now, it probably wouldn't launch five hundred."
Earlier in the film, Odysseus explains to his wife before departing for Troy that Helen leaving Menelaus was just an excuse for Agamemnon to wage war on Troy so he can completely control the sea trade routes. The reason why Lupita Nyong'o doesn't look like our classic image of Helen of Troy is because she's not supposed to.

I understand your artistic license argument, and totally get that all historical films do the same, but unattractive, oversized bad b Lupita as Helen; a diminutive and comedic Kevin Hart as Menelaus; and 100 pound transboy Elliott Page as Paris as the warrior who brings this battle on through his love for said bad b, is seriously bad casting and unlikely to satisfy anyone who has read the source material unless they are a fellow progressive.

This movie is straight up cultural appropriation, intended by its makers to mock and diminish yet another classic.
Progressives so often lack the creativity and backing to do what they really want to do artistically, so they instead opt for unimaginatively tearing down classics.
It's a pathetic use of everyone's time and money. Just make your own progressive movie with an overt lefty plot and see how it does, rather than destroy a truly worthwhile work bc the film makers are so dull and unimaginative they literally can't write an original plot.
I'll watch it when it reaches my television but on its face this looks no better than the fem Ghostbusters, it just parasitically attached itself to a classic.

Not once have i ever checked any movies awards before deciding to watch it. I gave in once to the non stop fluff woth black panther and it was pure forgettable garbage.

I think it’s time to consider the theory that conservatives have lost the drop and ceded many cultural issues by -among other things- turning their backs on the likes of Hollywood and the arts in general.
Money talks in this realm and wealthy conservatives could prolly move the needle away from the freak by simply leveraging donations/grants/investment in the arts, rather than ignoring them altogether.
Artists, will follow the money, even if they bitch about who’s paying…

Not the star though. That’s the point. Hollywood wants nothing more than to see a trans person up there accepting an award for best gendered actor, even though they’re not that biological gender.

Interesting take. What are your thoughts on the new Young Washington movie, getting a lot of fan hype particularly from white christian nationalists, but terrible critic scores.

Those who are going to be yapping about how awesome and amazing the Odyssey is because of the box office it hauls in. Ignoring the fact that much of that money be coming from IMAX, which is 2 to 3 times the normal price of the ticket.

All that means to me is that will be one more Oscar winning movie and cast I will never see.
