Winter time, people travel less so a drop is normal.

Also, isn't the winter blend mandated by the EPA cheaper than the summer blend?

Consumption seems to have slowed, meanwhile we've still been tapping the SPR. Also, China has been locking back over COVID fears. OPEC is expected to ramp up production in 2023 so some of this is likely market speculation.

The question is: what happens after the SPR spigot is turned off?

This is the main reason gasoline is typically cheaper from September to March.

Gasoline blenders/traders are pretty agnostic to the "driving season" thing people throw out.

Vapor pressure limits are less restrictive, allowing cheaper components to be blended into your gasoline.

FJB did say they'd repurchase at $67-72/bbl to provide a floor to producers.

Yes, he is an absolute moron for stating that too. Stunning how ignorant you people are, truly like you didn't make it past 7th Grade.

Also don’t forget, Brandon declared that MBS was immune to civil litigation in US courts. Saudis are probably repaying the goodwill accordingly.

OPEC now saying it wasn't true, a lot of the big move in oil this morning has been retraced.

The world cup being held in Qatar. If gas was at it’s normal $5 a gallon, people would protest watching the world cup because of it being in a oil saturated middle eastern country.

Sub $80 oil?

But extremely volatile this morning. At OP oil was down over 6% at $75, then dial back in now and it's about where the morning started at $79.

Plummeting?

Prices fell this mrng bc the Wall Street Journal falsely reported that OPEC is considering an output increase of 500,000 barrels. Along with fears of covid restrictions in China, this caused the price of Brent to drop 6% & trade below $83/barrel.

The price bounced off of the low around noon bc the Saudi Energy Minister denied discussions about OPEC going forward with an output hike and is still climbing since Saudi denied this story.

Gasoline and diesel are coproducts at the refinery. While there is some ability to adjust the ratio it is limited. With the winter heating season refinery are pushing diesel and having to discount gas to keep it moving.
