TBF she sounded hysterical and like she had no clue what was actually going on.

She sounded like she knew what was going on but could not do anything about it. The panic set in when she was helpless.

I don’t know anything about jets, or that plane in particular, but I’d guess once the de-icing system got overwhelmed, and the wing stalled, it was curtains.

This girl apparently had her private license before she was licensed to drive a car.

I heard someone properly using call sign, declaring emergency, then mayday, then conditions, al while under extreme duress. I didn’t hear deviation from this until all was clearly lost.

Give me a choice, and I’d rather not fly with a pilot that young. But, if the person flying the plane (she wasn’t) got them to that place - in the center of a bad cell, at 37k feet, rather than deviating mid-state - then where they ended up is on the pilot not the FO

Nobody on here let a 20-year old drive their zero-turn mower.

The copilot, Jack, was her boyfriend. So they were both very young and inexperienced.

Was there any possibility that they could have brought the thing down relatively safely, like landing on a highway? I've always thought that planes have the ability to glide a certain distance if the engines fail. Is that not correct?

If the wings ice over, it loses lift. The contour of the wings creates lift. Disrupt that flow and there is no flying it at all. It's not flying, it's falling. You may as well be trying to land a car that is falling from the sky.

With engine failure you still have lift till you get to a certain speed. And you can dip the nose to get speed till you can't.

What a strange choice of operatives for taking out Mar-a-lago. Good thing they moved Trump an hour before, though...

The recent post by Nathalia Filgueiras, who is claimed to be one of the pilots on the plane: "How often can you see two pilots who are under 21 years old, have commercial flight licenses, and on top of that, are flight instructors?"

I would really just like to understand why they flew straight into a 45k thunderstorm. I know they can come up fast, but that would have literally been in their field of vision. Those storms can bubble warm air up, not sure how warm, but if it gets up close to the freezing mark with liquid, that is for sure an icing nightmare.

Great question.

I've been on numerous commercial flights where the pilot tells the passengers it's getting a little bumpy and they're deviating from their original course and altitude to avoid the turbulence from building storms.

Why didn't they just fly around that cell instead of right through it?

It sounds like they were given clearance to deviate either left or right to avoid it but they didn't do either. I'm assuming the age an inexperience is a factor. I remember being young and reckless.

Look up embedded thunderstorms. They're common in aviation. The clouds obscure the thunderstorm. The issue is these two were woefully unprepared for bad flying conditions.

Pilot's lack of experience?

The same glaring questions as the young female helicopter pilot who flew directly into the airplane over DC in early 2025.

I'm sorry, but now that we have pictures of her and her boyfriend...

The Instagram-ification and TikTok-ification of everything these days indicates a lack of seriousness. We don't have enough serious people these days. Pilots shouldn't be allowed to post pictures of them flying for posterity on social media.

With her manicured nails pressing buttons and 'Bruh!' with emojis.

'Look how cool this thing I'm doing is!' 'How romantic, me and my bf flying.' Is it about flying safely or the video and picture opportunities for your social media? Then they fly directly into the heart of a storm.

RIP to all involved, but unless Elon or some other genius figures out how to prevent stuff like this, we're just getting started on a nightmare era in aviation where DEI and people getting dumber in general is going to lead to a lot more of these tragedies. The number of near-crashes and insane ATC mistake audios in just the last few years is crazy.

Often in the comments you'll see former pilots saying they won't be passengers in commercial flights anymore these days because of what they've seen and heard--and they say you have no idea how bad it actually is.

Everyone hates on the Boomers, but they had a level of competence that the youngest generations seem to lack. And as they age out and retire from critical industries, avoidable failures will increase.

Entirely too young - 20 years old - to be in that aircraft, I don't care if she was rated or not, or the PNF. LJ's have a history of being difficult to operate when shite hits the fan. I also know a retired LJ Captain, who once told me , you don't mess around with weather in an LJ, it upsets very easily, even more so than other comparable aircraft, you run from weather, he said it wasn't uncommon to deviate 50-100 miles from super cells.

Don't care it you call me a sexist... Piloting aircraft is male thing, it's just that simple. Honestly, a strong number of pilots feel this way as well.. and it's not simply to protect their jobs.

Mistakes up there are very often disastrous. Men think differently than women.

I'm not saying there aren't capable female pilots and she may have been one -- but the whole DEI argument made it easier to lower standards.

Thoughts and prayers go to the survivors and the families of the deceased.
