re: Officials announce proposal that would establish California as separate nation

California's economy is backed by the Federal Government. That economy would be backed by what if they seceded?
The military personnel and equipment belong to the USA and we would not just let California have it.
California could not stand on their own.

Can we extend the wall the curve up the Cali border? Shouldn't be too difficult.
Posted on 1/27/17 at 10:12 am to FrenchToast
Lol how is anyone still talking about this? It isn't happening, every single state not named California would have to agree unanimously for them to leave the US. It's not happening, so give up.

I agree.
It would also be brutal to the US economy and infrastructure if they left as well.
It's terrible for both parties, not just California.

We could to a point, but the state line crosses through Lake Tahoe.
At that point it needs to be moved to the west so the lake basin is entirely in the US. I'm not willing to give up that big, deep, blue, beautiful lake to a bunch of tree-huggers who would drain it for the benefit of some stupid fish.

This is the best idea I have heard of. We have what is called Hollywood East on the East Coast in Coastal NC. So we can have our movies too. They can have Madonna et al...
Make this happen. But they cannot get bailed out monetarily, and when their BFF commie countries take them over, our military won't be there for them. Let their SJW's fight in their fricked up unicorn and fairy dust land. They can have Crooked Hillary as their POTUS and just about all of the democratic party.
We can negotiate for a few classical Hollywood movies and movie sets and in return they can have McCain, Kasich, and Graham, even Romney and Glenn Beck.

Hell yeah! California is one the states I vote in. I know how I'm voting.

Desalination plants would work well for CA.
Yeah, I'm sure.
Let's see the largest desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere is the Carlsbad desalination plant.
The idea started in 1993 and was opened in 2015. Actual construction started in 2012 and was completed in 2015. Original cost projections started at 250 million but cost ballooned to 1 billion dollars by the time the project was complete.
The plant can supposedly generate up to 50,000,000 gallons of potable water per day. San Diego County can demand up to 86% of it's output and it is expected to provide 7% of the water for the San Diego area.

Agreed, though Nevada gets quite a bit of revenue from shell corporations formed for that purpose (many of which claim Incline Village--on the north shore of Lake Tahoe--as their corporate address).
All of those locations are inside of the US. I meant succeeding California, can't have us accounts to hide their cash. Because taxes will be 80% in that new country.

Last time a few states wanted to leave the Union, the aggressive Lincoln brigade started a war. Is it time to repay the favor?

proposal in California has been submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday campaigning for the state to secede from the United States. The proposed “Calexit” initiative would ask voters to repeal part of the state constitution that declares California an inseparable part of the U.S. A recent poll suggested that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Donald Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal. If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation. Secretary of State Alex Padilla said the group behind the proposal, Yes California Independence Campaign, was cleared to begin attempting to collect nearly 600,000 voter signatures needed to place the plan on the ballot. The Los Angeles Times reported that the supporters of the proposal have said California does not share the same cultural ideas as the rest of America.
But then:
Trump orders the US Military to:
Make Cali a no fly zone and shut down all air in and out of the state.
Blockade all ports with the US Navy. No ships in or out.
Close all rail and interstates and roads into and out with the US Army.
Shut down all electric and water fed into the state with the US Army Corp of Engineers.
Marines Corps on standby for when they fell ready to strike back.
Take the San Diego Naval base and Camp Pendleton back and occupy.
What Then?

Support. Republicans that block this are idiots. California is more than capable of being their own country.
Posted on 1/27/17 at 10:44 am to pochejp
Why would the US engage in war with California? That makes no sense. Are you advocating war, prohibiting companies from selling their energy to whomever they want and blockades of trade?
Republicans have become so anti free trade it seems.

As I said before, neither I, nor a member of my family, will take up arms to stop them from leaving.

And this why the electoral college exists and functions the way it was intended.

I think we should beat them to the punch and secede from them.
