Water will be the biggest issue. If the US were smart they would find other uses for it before it gets to Cali. I understand there's lots of desert land that can be irrigated before it gets to Cali.

It won't happen, it's a publicity grab.

That said, it would be terrible for both sides if it really did break away, despite the misinformed opinions shared on this board.

This will be the second war about slavery. DJT is enslaving the hearts and minds of liberals.

13 states that also thought they shared different cultural ideals than the rest of the states tried that in 1861 and look what happened.

To help spur the economy here in La. I think the Feds need to procure cases and cases of Boudreaux's Butt Paste and send it out to California. Maybe a US paint brush factory could be hired to send all their brushes out West too so they can gob it on.

Good. Bye. It would be the death of the national Democratic Party forever and we could tax the shite out of their country's exports causing them to relocate to Texas and Arizona etc. plus California needs our water so sell it to them for profit. They would collapse in a decade

California is a major donor state that feeds and donates charity to Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. CA is the 6th largest economy in the world and controls the Pacific Rim with China. Moreover, TX is now a swing state like Florida, and the Dems actually gained more ground in TX this last election.

FL, TX, NY and CA uber alles.

I like that approach. The areas around Lake Tahoe are (somewhat surprisingly) conservative, so we would keep the entire lake in the US.

I thought the secession talk was mostly just a post-election temper tantrum.

This may actually happen

This is no different from those morons in Texas who floated the same thing because they didn't like Obama.

Desalination plants would work well for CA.

should they move forward, which is doubtful, the response will be Sherman-esque....

Texas has never had such a vote.

First, California allows for citizen-led initiatives to amend its state constitution. Texas has no such provision in its state constitution; only the Legislature can propose amendments. And despite all our bluster (we're quite known for that), they've never submitted such an amendment to the citizens for vote.

Second, there was some talk about having it as a non-binding vote in a GOP primary, but it never got anywhere.

I can't wait.

I hope Russia conquers them as soon as they declare Independence.

THEN California will be good friend to Trump.

Hell no.

For starters, the majority of Puerto Ricans don't want it.

No it wouldn't. California basically carries this nation, and they probably have more military personnel in CA per capita than any other state.

Agreed, though Nevada gets quite a bit of revenue from shell corporations formed for that purpose (many of which claim Incline Village--on the north shore of Lake Tahoe--as their corporate address).

I would say just let them go.

But the thought of a Sherman style match from Sacramento to the sea would be amusing. Imagine what it would be like when the tanks rolled through Berkley.

Before the Civil War Louisiana was the second richest state in the Union behind Massachusetts.
