A proposal in California has been submitted to the Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday campaigning for the state to secede from the United States.

The proposed “Calexit” initiative would ask voters to repeal part of the state constitution that declares California an inseparable part of the U.S.

A recent poll suggested that one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. due to their opposition to President Donald Trump. No mention has been made of the president in the proposal.

If the proposal qualifies for the ballot and is approved by voters, it could be a step to a future vote on whether the state would break away from the rest of the nation.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla said the group behind the proposal, Yes California Independence Campaign, was cleared to begin attempting to collect nearly 600,000 voter signatures needed to place the plan on the ballot.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the supporters of the proposal have said California does not share the same cultural ideas as the rest of America.

Have those that agree formally sign up to leave.

Build the wall and drop them on the other side of it.

Problem solved.

They should make it a county-by-county vote so the conservative areas in Northern Cali and away from the coasts can stay in the US if they wish. To the rest, I say Bye Felicia.

Texas did the same thing and I think they got it to a vote and it was quickly squashed.

Good. Bye. It would be the death of the national Democratic Party forever and we could tax the shite out of their country's exports causing them to relocate to Texas and Arizona etc. plus California needs our water so sell it to them for profit.

They would collapse in a decade.

I like Yosemite. Other than that, good riddance.

Also, they say California doesn't share the same values as the rest of the country. I'm sure the rural areas of California are like everywhere else and don't want any part of their major city's agenda. So maybe just LA, Sam Fran, and a few other will secede.

I thought the secession talk was mostly just a post-election temper tantrum.

This may actually happen

Texans appear to be a lot smarter.

I hope they do it, and take Oregon and Washington with them.

Well Texas used to be it's own republic.

I wonder if they will allow the immigration of our leeches into their socialist utopia. After the initial economic impact on the remaining US, it'll be a win-win.

California couldn't leave unless the house votes on it
