If you don't like how high rent is in New York City, DON'T LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. Don't try to change it through force and drag everyone else down to your art degree and social sciences levels, it is not some "human right" to live in the most expensive city in the country (and possibly world).

12% isn't shite. Even if it were double, triple that it isn't shite. They can charge what the market demands, if they overcharge then they'll go out of business. It's simple economics and you can't blow the whole system up and force a wedge into the middle of it so you can cram yourself in while making $30k a year.
