You have to understand the framing of this discussion, which involves the New York City Rent Guidelines Board. They are not discussing a free market and it's specifically about government regulation.

OK - I retract - did not know that - but if the NYCRGB is part of the background discussion, then I'm out

What a complete contrarian crock of shite. Of course he means people shouldn't earn a 12% return. You fricking know that is exactly what he means. You just have to be the contrarian on everything and this time you just look fricking stupid.

He isn't talking about rights and you know it. He is actually saying 12% is too much. Plain and simple, but keep being an absolute jackass to keep your reputation of being a jackass at a solid 100%.

It is clear as day he means that no one should make double digits ROI period. As in by law. As in illegal. As in the govt takes it.

He wants the state to step in and be able to seize profits whenever they see fit.

If you make 12% after taxes and the state wants 8% of the remainder he wants to be able to take it.

I sincerely hope that these overeducated idiots from the DSA keep getting airtime. The more they are allowed to speak, the less popular they’ll become.

The Board set a 0% increase this year LINK

quote:

New York City's Rent Guidelines Board voted 7-1 on Thursday night in favor of a rent freeze, a decision that will impact millions of residents.

The outcome was another indication of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's political power, as one of his campaign promises was to freeze rent.

The landlords say they need to increase rent higher.

He's saying "you don't have the right for the government to increase the rent you can charge"

Not in New York City

And it hasn't been for a long time.

Rent Stabilization in NYC

quote:

Rent stabilization is a form of rent regulation; it helps combat the City's housing crisis by making sure some units remain affordable. Almost half of all rental apartments in New York City are rent stabilized. Rent stabilized apartments are most often located in buildings containing 6 or more units, which were built before 1974. If you live in a rent stabilized unit, you are entitled to additional protections and rights, so it is important to know your status.

quote:

There is a legal limit to how much you can be charged in rent. Your rent can only be increased by a percentage that is decided on each year by the Rent Guidelines Board. If you believe you are being overcharged in rent, make a rent overcharge complaint with the NYS Department of Homes and Community Renewal. In the Spring of 2026, the Rent Guidelines Board decided on rent changes that apply to rent stabilized leases starting on or after October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.

Naw He even used a reference to bootstraps. He's trying to use conservative language as a gotcha and to make people seem like hypocrites. That's why he was cleared to discuss it in terms of Rights and even reference the Constitution. You have to understand the framing of this discussion, which involves the New York City Rent Guidelines Board. They are not discussing a free market and it's specifically about government regulation.

"that's not in the constitution!"

What a dumbass.

That's only one of the many ridiculously asinine statements he made in that interview.

quote:

DSA Co-chair Gustavo Gordillo wants the government to drive bodegas out of business: “If 1 publicly owned grocery store that brings prices down in the neighborhood is enough to put someone out of business then maybe they shouldn’t have been in that business in the 1st place.”

Again, you don't think these lunatics would not expand their dystopian agenda to all once they get power.

Who the frick cares if it is just NYC now? Coming to a town near you.....Chicago, Seattle, LA, Detroit, NOLA, etc.

There is a much larger battlefield than NYC.
Muh, he is only talking about NYC.
