Why is it not the least bit surprising that you’re desperately trying to rationalize what this loon is saying?

I read about it 2-3 years ago I believe on a property management group on Facebook. NY & Ca have very very different laws than the rest of the country. Landlords are abandoning NY. That’s just one of many insane laws. Their eviction process is a whole other animal

Sometimes it’s best to put aside attorney mindset for a common sense one.

Yes we don’t have an actual right to get a 12% return as in a guarantee. We do have a right to pursue a 12% return

But he is saying the government has the right to make sure that they do not (by freezing rents). He is effectively saying that the government has the right to determine what the return on iinvestment is for landlords. What he is too stupid to realize is that this is how you guarantee a housing shortage and poor living conditions.

Thanks for the clariflication - it absolves the verbiage of the comment discussed but not his motive.

So, don't buy rental in NY, put it in the market instead. Brilliant strategy to attract investors by NY. The guy will bankrupt the city in 2 years.

That's already the law.

That's been the law in NYC since 1969

Yes, but that's not what OP chose to discuss

Agreed in large part. It does appear, however, that Marco Rubio and now deceased Sen Graham have not been on the take when they could have been.

Unfortunately, all of the prominent Dems appear to have been the inside-trading, lying, money-grubbing whores we have all long suspected.

ETA: and so have most Republicans, to their great shame

Trump bought some old buildings in 1981 and tried a different strategy to get the rent control tenants to move out......

quote:

When tenants resisted, Trump proposed offering the vacant apartments to the city as transitional housing for homeless people. He dubbed the proposed complex the "Trump Chateau for the Indigent"

Didnt work, the city stopped him, but it is quite funny, and shows the foolishness of rent control.

Rent stabilized apts in Manhattan are about 2 grand or more per month cheaper than the average rent and it is about 44% of total apts.
