eliminating the busloads of Chinese tourists
Travelling right before the wider lockdowns was fantastic as many had closed the borders to this and everywhere was a much nicer experience

Many of these people will bemoan other western tourists, but deep down they know that eliminating the busloads of Chinese tourists who don’t eat at the restaurants and don’t buy anything but garbage trinkets eliminates 95% of what they are complaining about.
Truth.

I was in Barcelona a few years ago and "Tourists go home" was tagged all over the place.
But people were mostly nice.
I travel a lot and many many tourists do suck. I'm one of the tourist hating tourist. I prefer to go to local areas and avoid things and places made for tourists.

Europeans suck. All the good ones either immigrated to the US or were killed in the 2 world wars. It’s why real Americans look down on them with pity and scorn

I live in New Orleans which depends on tourism and the locals generally welcome tourists with open arms

There are some places in Europe where this has been simmering for years.
The development of the Chinese middle class has caused such an absolute oversaturation of European tourism that they just can't take it anymore. Not surprised by this

Protesting tourism just seems like such an out of touch first-world problem.
We have the same problem here
Old liberals who have gotten theirs, now want to pull up the ladder to keep others from getting theirs.

Stay in hotels when you travel.
No. Thanks.

Snotty foreigner "locals." Tourism stops, they'll be crying then too. You can't make crybabies happy. They just want something to cry about.

Have you ever been to Barcelona during the summer and the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy? We Americans and Brits invade those places.....Portugal might as well be an English province during the summer. Hard to find a Portuguese speaker.

Youre missing out...especially in Central/Eastern Europe, you can get some absolute steals where you are staying in very central neighborhoods in nice apartments for almost nothing. I bet I averaged less than $50/night in Airbnbs when I stayed in Poland for almost a month.

This is such an American attitude.
The house on the corner across from mine is a 3plex with owner living quarters on top and 2 apartments at the bottom. They airBnB'd them for a while and I hated it. Having strange people coming and going while my kids were playing in our backyard was extremely unsettling. I don't want to be that strange person to someone else just trying to live their lives.

For a short term stay I prefer hotels as well
I've only stayed in AirBnBs for medium term work assignments. Loved the place I had in Fort Collins but it cost a damn fortune.

Take away tourism and the cities crumble from lack of revenue. Who do you think eats in the restaurants, shops, pays for transportation, etc?
Those “poor” people that say they can’t afford to live there are often times working in tourism based jobs
There needs to be some pushback. There is an optimal amount of tourism somewhere under as much as possible.
Tourism skyrocketed post COVID. Just like a factory can’t run at 100% or more capacity , neither than can a city.

This is such a Karen attitude.
I dont want some strange woman judging me for walking past her kids while im minding my own business.
This does showcase the hypocrisy of leftist women. They are fine with third world, unvetted immigrants...as long as they are near YOUR kids and not HER kids

Europeans are stupid and suicidal.

It really is difficult to describe just how many people there are at these destinations. It's honestly crazy the amount of folks in Rome alone. It's a never ending sea of tour guides, tourists, etc. Visiting the Vatican Museum alone was a bit claustrophobic throughout culminating with a rather unbearable experience at the Sistine Chapel. I don't blame them. Their streets are quite literally overrun with tourists.
