Louisiana coffee roasters have been squeezed by new tariffs. Now they are raising prices.

Louisiana coffee roasters are raising prices as tariffs make it more expensive to import coffee beans, adding to recent challenges for a local industry tied to the globally traded commodity.
J.M. Smucker Co., which roasts coffee for Folgers, Dunkin’ and Café Bustelo at its facilities in New Orleans and employs nearly 700 workers, said in June that it planned to increase prices in response to the 10% tax on all imports that President Donald Trump announced in April.

Baton Rouge-based Community Coffee said Wednesday that the rise in prices for green coffee beans, which it roasts before selling to consumers, forced it last month to increase what it charges. And French Truck Coffee, the New Orleans-based chain with locations in Baton Rouge and Memphis, Tennessee, told customers on Monday it was adding a temporary 4% surcharge on all in-store coffee-related purchases.
“We chose this approach so that if the tariffs are lifted in the future, we can quickly adjust or remove this charge —something we wouldn’t be able to do with permanent price increases,” French Truck wrote in its email to customers.

They're gonna price me out of Community Coffee regardless what the price increase is linked to.

Like these prices will ever go back down.

$0.05 more a cup and we arrest that bastard Obama?
Sounds like a fair trade.

But how many people will die as a result? That’s your stated benchmark for caring about something.

I wonder if SeaPort out of Beaumont, TX is doing the same.

I should have voted for Kamala

$9.19 for a 12 oz bag of Community Intense Dark Roast at Rouse's yesterday.
A fifth of Gator Bite Coffee Rum was only $18.99. Maybe I should just start incorporating some of that into my morning cup to stretch the pack of coffee.

All this is just another excuse for corporations to fuk the consumer. Coffee is a market price commodity, just like beef or gold, but they don't price it like that for a reason.
It's just like the food dyes. Once they remove them all and start using natural sources, they will increase prices 2-3x and frick you some more.
It's all a big scam, and John Q working American is the sucker who can't do anything about it.

What does this have to do with Obama going to jail?

I tasted Sam's brand Members Mark medium roast. It not bad. But I still buy the Community Coffee medium roast for $4 more a bag. The Community Coffee is $20 a bag and the Members Mark is $16.
$4 more every 3 weeks doesn't break my bank account.

Do what now? Neither of these two things have a damn thing to do with the other.

It's weird. Every time there's a thread criticizing tariffs, the usual suspects show up and say "oh yeah? Which products have gotten more expensive?!" Then when you point out something like coffee (which is hardly grown in the US) they blow up and say "yeah well frick YOU CUCK! you NEED coffee?"

French Truck definitely isn’t trying to make a political statement…

Yours must be thrilling, at least the imaginary part of it.

You know he hardly slept last night. Meanwhile, us MAGAs woke up with a ton of energy today. Can’t believe it’s finally here. Obama will be in handcuffs before the day is over. Trump has finally done it folks.

I actually buy coffee. Emails sent a decade ago that didn’t impact anything in any meaningful way are not my priority. I guess my life is too boring to care about those exciting emails.
