This had to be a headfake pick to negotiate someone else. I personally don't care about the pick, but the senate is going to have a collective aneurysm over it.
Personally I'm fine with all these picks so far. These department heads don't need to have detailed experience in the department or even the general subject matter if we're being honest.
The department heads need the ability to identify deputies and sub-deputies capable of carrying out the President's agenda and the leadership abilities to hold them accountable
It's the thousands of people two, three, four, and five levels below cabinet secretaries that are going to make or break Trump's agenda.

Elon, Vivek, Trump they have all said its going to be stripped down and maybe some functions like Pell Grants etc administered from the fed level, but the rest will be trimmed and sent to the states.
They should also stop federally secured student loans, thats a state issue now, the universities will quickly fix that fiasco.
You are gonna need someone very hard nosed to do it. With Trump's previous administration, Betsy DeVos had the largest security detail. You will be breaking the union or severely weakening it.
Trump said the two biggest lobbying bodies, lawyers and teachers union.
I dont doubt the union was the biggest threat to DeVos and I mean literally, and it will be far greater now.
