What’s with all the hate threads on the OT for Landry lately?
Because the only laws being pushed through are pointless, anti-freedom, big government bullshite.
Worry about bringing jobs, addressing crime, and improving lives.
Not this stupid crap.

Landry appears to be trying to put himself in the league with Abbot (TX) and DeSantis (FL).
Personally, I believe the Big 10 should never have been removed, but I understand the legalities of it, and I'm quite certain he does as well.
We'll just have to watch the show.

Lord knows we could probably use the 10 commandments in schools, but on the list of priorities affecting Louisiana right now, this is number 4,163.
The job market sucks and is non-competitive with other states, education is completely failing, college costs are absurd given the quality of degrees (and the job market), and insurance costs are about to make it to where the people that do have good jobs can’t afford to live in the state.
Even God is like “Thanks Jeff, but come on man.”

I don’t remember exactly what “separation of church and state” meant from middle school, but wouldn’t this violate that?

quote:If Louisiana was even in the same realm as those two states in GDP, quality of life, commerce, education, etc. then I'd roll my eyes and call him an idiot. When we are at the bottom looking up rooting for PR to be a state just so we have someone to point at being better than, then cut the crap and actually do what you were elected to do. It wasn't to grandstand but dig your heels in and find a way to help navigate the state from the mess it has become. The 10 commandments aren't going to make Monroe, Alexandria, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, or New Orleans any safer. Cutting into the THC market does not make the roads better, I'd argue missed revenue via a 'sin' tax actually makes it worse. Vetoing tort law reform doesn't make businesses rush to come in and invest in infrastructure and bring respectable wages. At this point I would honestly rather have JBE, I didn't like his policies most of the time, but at least his focus was here and not just attempting to get national headlines.

Absolutely fair OPINION.

I understand the legalities of it
This is the issue. We want a government that focuses on the things we need and allows its people to live their lives as they choose. Not one that forces kids to learn about religion and definitely not one that turns your kids trans.
Why tf can't we get a common sense, middle ground party?

This exact case had already been through the Supreme Court:
A relitigation of Stone v Graham which speaks specifically to requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools. It centers around the Establishment Clause test set out by Lemon v Kurtzman.

In Stone v. Graham, 449 U.S. 39 (1980), the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that a Kentucky statute was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, because it lacked a nonreligious, legislative purpose. The statute required the posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments on the wall of each public classroom in the state. The copies of the Ten Commandments were purchased with private funding, but the Court ruled that because they were being placed in public classrooms they were in violation of the First Amendment.

Does someone in power in the state have precedence to sue him directly to keep this from coming out of the tax payers pockets?
Does he think he has a legal case for this or something? I don’t understand.

I love how three of the biggest pieces of legislation passed recently are three things 99% of Louisiana citizens didn’t have remotely on their radar going into Landry’s term.
Sale of nitrous oxide, hemp based seltzers and requiring the 10 commandments in schools.
Who was clamoring for these items to be addressed 6 months ago???
The only positive thing that I've heard come from his office so far is Troop NOLA.

Governor Landry is trying to save the children
Let’s pretend that was true (it’s obviously not)…he can start a free bible literacy camp and pay for it out of his own pocket.
Even if this had a prayer of being upheld, it’s still a terrible idea, and I’m saying that as a Christian. Nurturing my kids’ spirituality is my responsibility and my privilege, it is not the state’s.

Louisiana cities are suffering from historic levels of urban decay, increasing murder rates, economic decline and meanwhile Landry is more concerned with passing virtue signaling bills to appeal to a certain demographic so he’ll get more votes.
What a fricking clown.

You can't display the Ten Commandments on your Federal building and then tell public schools that they can't do the same.

And they have given clear reasons for their justification
