Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration has applied to manage as much as $50 million in federal homeless services funds for the New Orleans area in an effort to overhaul the region’s long-standing homelessness strategy, state officials said.

If approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Lousiana Housing Corporation would use the funds to set up temporary housing and mental health and drug treatment programs, in line with Trump administration priorities.

A large share of the funds would be used to create a new several hundred-bed homeless shelter outside of downtown New Orleans. The facility would be a permanent version of the shelter Landry bused homeless residents to ahead of the Super Bowl LIX last year, according to a Landry administration official who had knowledge of the state's proposal but who was not authorized to speak on the record.

The move marks a sweeping effort by Landry to take control of New Orleans’ homeless programs, which the Republican governor has repeatedly criticized as ineffective.

Yeah, good luck with that. The scum that runs that city and the Homeless Industrial Complex that makes millions off of that scam will never give up that cash corruption opportunity.

They should round them all up across the country, make teams by city, put them on an island and compete for dope. Mr Beast could do a reality show.

They may not have an option. They will fight it but I see them losing bigly.

I hope so.

Not familiar with LA Constitution on this, but if State oversight is needed, let's do it.

Imagine if we could stop most if not all of the corruption in Fed, State and local governments.

Is this the New Golden Age PDJT often mentions?

Is anyone surprised by this? Decades of abysmal Democratic leadership.

Do like London does. Bus them out of the city.

Round them up and bring them to empty Lake Forest Mall in NO East. Add a detention area for ones who violate the new vagrancy law.

Squid game, Hunger game, The Purge, etc. I’m sure NeuraLink and other companies could use bodies for their experiments.

Round em up and move them to Buras. Offer tent housing and food. I think you'll quickly see that they won't want to stay in Louisiana.

Get them off the city streets

I imagine they will move on to a more welcoming destination. There are plenty of places across the country with robust “services”.

He spent $17.5 MM to move some homeless people across town for the Super Bowl and Taylor Swift concert. This is efficiency under the Landry administration.
