Most people understand what is meant by "work." It generally is understood as labor provided for money.
If you say you can't do something because you have to work when you mean you're about to cook dinner, that is fair enough but the vast majority of people don't call cooking or cleaning "working" despite requiring labor to perform those tasks. I could have used more precise language, but it's comical to use that as a smoking gun proving deception.
