This is what governors all over the nation are hoping for. JBE’s letter is stating the consequences of inaction by either the LA legislature or Feds. JBE isn’t threatening to raise taxes. These actions are already state law.
The real hope is the Feds approve grants instead of loans to state trust funds. Alternatively, LA could drop UI down to $100-200 and let the Feds cover loss wages. With the Senate 70% wage plan, lowering state UI would push the burden onto the Feds.

Slightly misleading thread title. JBE is asking LA congressional members for federal relief. The 30% surtax is already in the bylaws to fund unemployment if there is a shortfall. In the letter, he says the surtax is a last resort and states this as the reason he’s asking for a forgivable loan.

Maybe cut unnecessary state spending first you fricking hack.
Good thought but this tax triggers by law so even if JBE wanted to cut instead he legally couldn't ....this tax triggers if the UI trust fund drops below $100,000,000 I think.

Exactly. This tax is already in place & triggered when the trust fund drops below $1M. This can't happen till the first of the year & when it kicks in, the State's weekly unemployment amount drops approximately $20 or so.

30% tax on full payroll amount or 30% increase on the state unemployment tax?

The Democrat platform has always been to make as many people dependent on them for financial survival as possible. This fits perfectly with that. Putting the whole country on unemployment has been a wet dream for them.

You want to actually see a giant sucking sound well this is how you do it. The out migration of businesses will be unlike anything ever seen before.

Twice.
100% correct.
Louisiana "republican" voters are too stupid to vote for the lesser of two evils. Instead, they get offended by a candidate and vote democrat or don't vote at all, to "get even" and end up fricking themselves in the arse repeatedly.

How quickly can this get fixed / approved?
Also, per the link benefit will go from 247 to 221
