It's time to stop putting Ivy League lawyers on the Supreme Court.

Utilize some of the law schools in the SEC. LSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas. etc.
For to long Presidents have nominated Ivy League grads, and they don't have real world experience. They all are members of one large social club.

Ketanji Brown Jackson went to Harvard Law School. That alone should tell everyone how OVERRATED that whole dynamic is.
I would be vastly superior as a SCOTUS Judge to the faux biologist, and I didn't even go to law school.

You think they are concerned with voter fraud, they aren't elected. You think they live in or near crime ridden areas, or within gated communities. How many illegals or squatters are in their neighborhoods?

Okay, but your SEC lawyers with life experience would also not be elected, so how does having the life experience differ?

An Ivy Leaguer who is a white male would be great for the Supreme Court. It's almost impossible for one of those to get into the college these days.

The problem isn't who is interpreting the law, the problem is the law itself. But no one wants to say that.
Even in 1876 the country was fundamentally different than the one the founders started 100 years earlier. Today its hardly the same place.
Mass, sustained migration by land or sea just didn't really happen then.
Their laws don't even remotely take into account the concept of the internet, transactions on the internet, the concept of personal information and virtual privacy, etc.
We are trying to jam these and countless other modern concepts into a box they just don't fit in.
Not to mention that the concept of feeling connection to place, be that your state or country, is declining as a thought and worldview. People don't feel that much loyalty or love of where they are from, and most immigrants definitely don't care all that much about whatever place they've immigrated to.

Law school diversity for SCOTUS and clerks would be nice sure. Thomas actually gets his clerks from a lot of non-T14 schools, but still top 20-25ish schools.
This is a dumb complaint. There job is to literally interpret the law, running a Fortune 500 company doesn't help them do that. Saying they need "real world experience" is just a different way of saying "I want judicial activism that I approve of."

Why do you think that Supreme Court Justices from southern schools would have "real world experience"? If they have reached the point that they would be considered to be nominated, then they would have taken the same route as the present justices, just at a different school. Clerk for a prominent judge, graduate with honors, maybe work in the private sector for several years at a powerful law firm, then be appointed to a federal district judgeship. Rinse and repeat.

Very few of the justices have ever tried a jury case. I’ll bet most of them have ever represented a private client. The OP is spot on about avoiding the Ivies. We need people who were real lawyers with practical experience.

The people vote for Ivy Leaguers. Every President since Reagan is an Ivy Leaguer except for Biden.

Sweating to make payroll. Sitting in a conference with an actual human client rather than the executive committee of a multinational corporation. Vacationing at Panama City beach rather than cape cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Hamptons, etc.
