Voted for bush in 2000 at age 20, again in 2004. I have voted for democrats locally and for State house seats. The Dems I voted for were much better candidates locally.

I was in high school during the Clinton years, and Louisiana was still a very blue state back then. 9/11 happened right before I turned 20, so I imagine I was already switching to red then.

I was pretty lefty at 20. Then I was, as they say, "mugged by reality". Now I'm probably a non-religious 1980s-era conservative.
I think true lefties compare the current world to an ideal one, thinking about what could be better, while true conservatives compare the current world to known alternatives, thinking about what we might f up if we make big changes. Both impulses are necessary for success. Plenty of grifters in both camps.
