re: If the USA represents all people, why not give 1 electoral vote to every county or parish?

Oh my my. What a two way street I now envision. To continue the status quo with regard for state population would just tell the people in less populated states, counties or parishes their vote does not matter in Presidential elections at all
Giving all EVs to the winner is a shitty way. EVs should be given based on percentages. That is much better, and much cheaper, than having all counties having 1 EV.

You know what that would cause, states gerrymandering their county boundaries

You don’t count by county but by congressional district.

quote:why should Alpine County, California with its population of a little over 1000 people have as much of a say at the federal level as Los Angeles County with its population of 10mm?
you lock them in with what they have now. make it federal law

your vote would matter more if each county is awarded 1 EV if you win the popular vote in that COUNTY. less votes wasted.
how the frick does your vote in california count more for that whole state versus 1 county.
dems wanna win more counties? move out big cities and stop stacking them like you do now. f em.

The premise is even better when you consider the title is " If the USA represents all people"...because his plan would do the literal opposite and represent fewer people (but more artificial lines that can be redrawn below the federal level)

I am fine with it as long as the percentages are not calculated based on the population of a county. If a state has 10 EVs and 40 counties, each county gets .25 of an EV vote.

What?
If a county of 10M has the same weight as a county of 1000, then the county of 10M has 9,999,000 wasted votes

So Issaquena County in Mississippi would have the same influence as Los Angeles County.
Great plan.

You would certainly see far greater compromise amongst the American people.

Then let the tit for tat begin.

You need to go back and read the founder's documents and truly understand why the EC exist. So many have no idea.
Also begin to understand that we are a Constitutional Republic and stop using the phrase "we are a Democracy".

It should be like how Nebraska and Maine do it. 2 votes go to the popular vote winner in the state, and then the winner of each Congressional district gets a vote.

Probably all ready said - the most fair way to elect the POTUS:
Pass the Save Act.
Repeal the 17th amendment.
Create congressional districts based on population and established county lines.
Electoral vote delegated to the Senate seat is cast by the Senator.
Electoral vote for each House seat is cast by an "elector" chosen by popular vote in the respective district.
No (D) would ever go for this.

Because it takes nothing to subdivide and make a new county or parish. This is really dumb.

My oh my. You certainly have issues with reading, don't you? Where in my OP did I mention "we are a Democracy"? Regardless, I have understood us to be a Constitutional Republic for a very long time.

Yea, that wouldn't work at all. Also, you think there's corrupt voting now? Do something like this and it would make any current correction look like child's play.

Not so fast, my friend.

You may wish to rethink that just a bit

Bring it, bruh. So we end up with 12,000 +/- counties and parishes. That is a lot of Sheriffs, administrators, and courthouses, tax collectors, and clerks of courts. That is just to name a few.
Get real!!
Get real!!
