They can be in the military too. I served with multiple people who were citizens of other countries. One dude was from Trinidad.
I was honestly surprised, I had no idea and always just assumed everyone in the military was a citizen.

I mean that has to be the only valid theory, but when they ran his fingerprints it would have set off an alert and/or come back with wildly different information.

Apparently this has been the law in Illinois since 2023 although that slob Pritzker says it only applies to non citizens with work permits.

The point of doing this is also as a deterrent.
If people knew we might give exceptions, they will keep coming. If they know no one is safe, not even your father that's been here illegally for 30 years, then not so many will make that trek to come illegally.

Illegally here. I’m sure his past was vetted overseas and not a criminal or not criminally connected in any way since his presence was known throughout the federal system. Oh wait, illegally here so that vetting would have be not done

Well a lot of "illegals" have a work permit, it isn't really hard to get. With a work permit comes a valid SSN.
I don't understand how this bill makes sense because how do you give them a firearm even with employment authorization.
18 USC 922(g) says:

(A)is illegally or unlawfully in the United States; or
(B)except as provided in subsection (y)(2), has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa (as that term is defined in section 101(a)(26) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(26)));
The exceptions mentioned:

(2)Exceptions.—Subsections (d)(5)(B), (g)(5)(B), and (s)(3)(B)(v)(II) do not apply to any alien who has been lawfully admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa, if that alien is—
(A)admitted to the United States for lawful hunting or sporting purposes or is in possession of a hunting license or permit lawfully issued in the United States;
(B)an official representative of a foreign government who is—
(i)accredited to the United States Government or the Government’s mission to an international organization having its headquarters in the United States; or
(ii)en route to or from another country to which that alien is accredited;
(C)an official of a foreign government or a distinguished foreign visitor who has been so designated by the Department of State; or
(D)a foreign law enforcement officer of a friendly foreign government entering the United States on official law enforcement business.

That's an easy way to gain citizen ship, enlistment. Has been going on since before the civil war. The Union would take the immigrants right off the boat and send them to the front lines.
