This has been their culture for many centuries, and as we (and the Soviets) found out the hard way, they’ll fight to the last to hang on to their ways, and no amount of bombing or bribery will change that. They’ll just wait us out. Leave them be. It’s not our concern.

I have some Pakistani and Afghani friends, the younger generations find it an extremely outdated and weird practice. It will eventually change as those old guys die off. Different world out there...

Do your friends still live in Afghanistan and Pakistan? In my experience, the people who see their ways as outdated and weird left, leaving behind folks that are not going to change

Most moved here with their families when they were kids. They all go back yearly to visit family in these BFE villages. You have a point about the brain drain...
