This has been a strange OP with respect to the responses.
I was watching RAV and I had never seen the actual transaction that takes place when an Afghan father sells his 10 year old daughter to a man in his 50’s or 60’s as a child bride. There was never any implied message in the OP that the US should intervene. I did take a shot at Bumbling Biden and his Afghanistan Withdrawal Debacle but it wasn’t meant to say the US should still be actively engaging the Afghan warlords.
It would have been interesting to keep Bagram AFB open with around 2500 military personnel for intelligence gathering and if need be quick strike capabilities.

Isn't it normally exchanging a goat or some shite for a child? Is $2k more or less than the value of a goat? Did that family get ripped off or did they make more than the ones who received a goat?

imo a waste. these types will never change. key is just making sure they cant hurt us anymore, i dont think we need bases there to do that as we can launch drones from not far off to do it.

Keeping Bagram open would have been purely strategic. That base was in a perfect place to keep an eye on a lot of bad actors.

I'm not saying this to justify us having boots on ground but they most certainly have resources we need, especially if the EV folks get their way

If you are a Christian or a Jew, this should not come across as a shock. Jacob had to work for Laban for seven years as a dowry to marry Rachel. Check Exodus 22 and Deuteronomy 22 as they give the rules for selling your daughter into slavery or as a bride (basically the same thing), plus rules for what you must pay the father if you rape his daughter. The Abrahamic faiths clearly permit selling of daughters, and as the Afghan is most likely Muslim, he’s just following God’s words.
ETA: didn’t Muhammad (PBUH) have a 9 year old wife?

Afghanistan is built to fail. It should have been chopped up and given to the Turkic-speaking countries above it, Iran, India Pakistan and Tajikistan. Never is a long time but it will never be successful as there are too many Pashtun sub-clans and other ethnic groups with guns and many reasons to fight.
