Matthew 16:18
Lovely verse. Context is a wonderful thing too. In just one famously quoted verse, catholics have determined that Peter was the original ‘Pope’ and that many more descending from his line.
No other supporting verses. Just that one. That would be like me picking out John 6:51 and saying Jesus was promoting cannibalism.
The surrounding verses of Matthew 16:18 offer some guidance and clarity. And as you read the book of Acts and see what Peter accomplished with the ‘keys of the kingdom’, first to Jews, then to Gentiles, it makes clear what his purpose was.
Don’t you think it would be hypocritical for Jesus to reestablish a clergy-ruling class over the congregation when he spent a good balance of his 3-year ministry calling the Pharisees, Saduccees, and ruling members of Judaism hypocrites for doing just that?

133 cardinals vote for the next pope. 108 were installed by Francis. Just look at this situation from this view: Global org with a lot of influence will be ran by someone who gets voted on by 108 people that were installed in their position by someone who only received his job because of a coup by multiple governments. That's per Steve Bannon's recent interview with a cardinal. Whatever happens won't be good for Christianity, Catholic or otherwise.

Christianity will be just fine

So there is no uproar over the pope.
Just some anger over some online images.
Seems your headline was incorrect

As a Catholic, I forgive you because Jesus instructed me to in the Bible.

Voted for Trump three times and am a Christian, not a Catholic.
I don’t regard the Pontifex as being holier than anyone else on earth.
I also try to follow Paul’s writings on not offending others. There are plenty of good Catholics in the world who aren’t pedophiles and who hold the Pope or the office of the Pope in high regard. The post by Trump wasn’t a wise move, IMO. Unprovoked and unexpected. I have no idea what he was thinking when he did it.

Imagine a world , in the year 2025 . Where humans believe a fat slob sitting in a country with riches we can only imagine walking around in white garb is their intermediatory to the creator of the universe and the savior of our world .
If you believe in that then all I can do is laugh at you and pray for your soul because your're dumber than a bag of hammers. BTW , the pope died a year ago or more not recently.

Didn't Biden actually ram his forehead into the Pope's forehead a year or two ago?
Where was the left's outrage then?

Your post and Trump’s dumbass juvenile crap is insulting to the masses of Catholics who follow their faith… Like it or not, it’s the way it is.

Catholics should always be insulted.

What the frick would you know about it?
The use of religion as a rhetorical weapon by religion-hating leftists is one of their most vile traits.

You can’t use scripture sparky. The Catholic Church gave you the canon of scriptures while fighting off heretics and articulating the truths of the trinity and divinity of Christ.
Your right to quote scripture is revoked.

My Protestant brothers may not like it, but the catholic “universal” church was the only Christian church until 500 years ago. Since then the Protestants (protestors against the church Jesus founded) have splintered into hundreds of different churches and various denominations that have their own varying belief systems and priorities. Those churches are rife with graft, salesman preachers, child molesters, openly gay and lesbian preachers, and full false teachings and heresy.
The Catholic Church has its own problems and its priests and parishioners aren’t perfect. But that’s the whole point of why Jesus came here. To save us from ourselves and offer a path to heaven. That path IS found in its most true form in the Catholic Church. Rail against it if you dare, but the gates of hell will never prevail against it, regardless of how much Satan and his agents may try.
Pray we have a pope that is true to God and His people to lead us in this world.
