The pope is a moron, but you don't understand Separation of church and state. It was instituted to protect the church from the state, not the other way around and certainly not to keep Christians out of the government.

This is objectively false. I honestly don't remember the last time I saw a thread about Catholics on here. Why the frick are you trying to play a victim?

None of the examples you give are also the head of a sovereign nation not named United States. It is a conflict of interests to have heads of other nations taking part in the elections of our country. Be they a US citizen or not.

So you’d be ok if the pope was president?

I’m sorry but you can’t have it both ways.
This is pretty dumb, baw.

Haven't you heard? We"ll let anyone vote.

The separation of church and state doctrine certainly does not prevent an individual from voting.
The bigger question is whether he is registered to vote in Illinois.

He is now a dual citizen.

This guy isn't really a pope.

Yes, and he is actually a tri-citizen, I forgot about Peru.

Wrong argument. As already pointed out, that would mean any head of church could not vote.
What makes the pope different is the Vatican City is a sovereign nation. He is the head of that nation. It is a conflict of interest to have heads of state, of foreign nations, voting in US elections at any level. That would be like letting Putin vote if he held dual citizenship.

You actually think priests and ministers don’t vote?

I think voting of multi citizens in U.S. is a question worth exploring.

I'm not sure that as a head of state he can.
This is of those rarely-visited parts of the Constitution, so the confusion is understandable.
There is nothing in US law which says a US citizen cannot serve as a foreign head of state. There is also nothing which says doing so hampers their US citizenship, nor the rights which come from that, in any way.
Fun fact: Ecuadoran President Daniel Noboa holds dual US and Ecuadoran citizenship.

You seriously think this pope isn’t a dem plant put here by Satan to infiltrate the Catholic Church?
Interesting. Why not?

I don’t know if he is or isn’t.
But the poster I responded to is a Protestant zealot who seems to believe that all Catholics are headed to Hell regardless.

Depends on where loyalty lies. My wife still holds dual citizenship and I am seeking it for retirement. We are both very pro-America. We have discussed the very topic of should we vote once we become exPats. We will still be subject to US taxation. We will still be pro-USA(as well as Pro-Croatia). Should we lose our right to vote? We can both make arguments for both yes and no. Truthfully, I do not think it would bother us to lose that ability once we move permanently even though we will still be taxed by tUSA.
