Do New Orleans next. Looks like money well spent, what with the skyrocketing crime and businesses leaving daily.

It’s a very unfortunate reality but In many ways, our state is reliant on disaster funding.

New Orleans certainly is.

Much if that funding gets squandered with little oversight on bidding, grifting or fiscal restraint.

The port at Fouchon...yes, VERY critical to O & G markets and thus of NATIONAL importance...a fishing village of 1000 residents...NOT SO MUCH...lol

Most of the commerce, taxes, etc from GI comes from non-residents. Money JP or the state would not otherwise get

Grand Isle isn’t a fishing “village” anymore. It’s a fishing playground for the wealthiest people in the state. The “camps being built now are multi million dollar mansions with boat slips for big arse sport fishers and helipads. T-Boy ain’t traveling to his shrimp trawler via helicopter

You're right Grand Isle should get way more money than New Orleans. ITs cleaner, less dangerous, and a lot more fun.

At least all of the pedophiles have been relocated from Grand Isle. It was loaded with them in the 70s, 80s & 90s. Seemed like every couple of months another government funded employee or politician was convicted for it.

Pretty poor investment if they like saltwater fishing, that’s all going to go to shite once they start those giant diversions.

Moving sand is a huge industry in Louisiana. Politicians are celebrated and entire institutes are built based generating demand to pay people to move sand from one place to another.

f memory serves, that post-Katrina elevated roadway between Golden Meadow and GI was done with national security funds as the area produces so much energy that it's considered vital to national security.

Actually that's more for Port Fourchon...Grand Isle just gets to tag along.

My mistake for not being more clear, I tend to generically call the whole area "Grand Isle".

I agree that it’s a waste of money. No one goes to Louisiana beaches except in-state locals who live close by. And every beach in Louisiana is at the mouth of the MS River which is going to make all of them look unaesthetic no matter how hard they try to up-keep them. Beaches are not going to bring Louisiana back, and anyone who thinks so is a moron.

The Louisiana government needs to figure out how to attract more F500 companies, which will never happen since the state legislature is bought and paid for by oil companies.

You think a river diversion is going to change the Gulf of Mexico to freshwater?? And I know some of you have trouble with this concept, but not everything is an investment. Sometimes rich people just build/buy shite because they want to

things. Those two plus fishing and O&G (I would say even especially O&G). Without oil and gas coming out of the area it likely would have been written off as a loss due to subsidence long ago. If memory serves, that post-Katrina elevated roadway between Golden Meadow and GI was done with national security funds as the area produces so much energy that it's considered vital to national security

The elevated bridge stops at the beginning of Port fourchon, and was built for Port fourchon.

Not much O&G going on actually on the island anymore.
