This board is going to take the news hard. They were convinced Oliver Thomas would win as a convicted felon.
The reasons Thomas didn't do better have nothing to do with his criminal record. He's just not in good standing with BOLD or CORE or Stampampy Barre or whoever the hell else it is that pulls the strings down there now.
Anyone who believes otherwise is profoundly naive. Anyone who believes otherwise and is currently in Orleans Parish need to get the frick out ASAP before some guy named after a breakfast cereal kills you with a zip-tie and CashApps himself your entire 401-K.

By far the best candidate. I think she will surprise some of you.
Your down voters are not interested in seeing New Orleans prosper. Moon Landrieu was the last white mayor to bridge the gap and lets hope and pray that Helena can too. See:LINK
Dutch continued to bridge the gap as the cities first black mayor, but then.....
NO was a great city and beginning with Nagin after Katrina has missed every opportunity to regain its iconic status. Go back and implement the post Katrina plans on the drawing board like moving UNO and tax credits to big corporations who return to the CBD and you will see immediate results.
Note to Helena: Recruit great Mayor's Office people to lobby the legislature. Is Tony Gagliano still alive? All New Orleans needs on any vote is North Louisiana legislators or South Louisiana legislators to join NO & vicinity legislators on any pro-New Orleans vote for giving NO money. NO is the swing vote on everything. If you scratch my back I'll scratch yours. Just make sure pro-New Orleans legislation is something that can be scratched. Will it generate tax revenue? Then if its good for NO its good for the state. If New Orleans plays their cards right in the legislature its off to the moon Alice!

Well she can't help but be better than what we've had the last 8 years. Talk about setting the bar low. Really, going back one more mayor, Mitch was more checked out than most people realize for most of his time. He was "active" in that he was always politically wheeling and dealing but he was pretty terrible at things like infrastructure and long term planning. He let a lot of rot just keep taking place. Of course it only got worse under Latoya.
Maybe it's just me but there seemed like a strange lack of interest and enthusiasm among people generally about this election. I'm not sure why that is. If I had to guess it's because Moreno was basically so far ahead for so much of it that nobody took much interest in it.

Jason Williams is a problem quite obviously but Liz Murrill has him under her pointy heel at the moment and she’s not going to let up. There’s a clear power play going on between her and the criminal justice system in New Orleans and she’s going to win. Landry is a pancake but murrill is a force to be reckoned with. Unwinding decades of incompetence will take some time.
The problem over there right now is not Williams, it's the judges.
If you follow the DA, you'll see he is not making quite the same kinds of decisions he made when he first got into office. Give him credit where it's due for changing things up when they didn't work like he had hoped.

Helena is a democrat
She’s not a hard core or idealogue but she’s a democrat. A lot will depend on her future aspirations.
Within that liberal spectrum, she’ll fall heavier on women’s issues and gay stuff.
She’s politically savvy and will pander to blacks but we won’t see a lot of changes to any of the current DEI city policies which are very liberal already. She’s said several times that she wanted nola to be a place where people’s kids would return after college. That means a place with quality employment.
As a white person she will feel a particular pressure to perform liberal tricks. Not sure how she’ll respond to that. Again, It depends on her future plans. If she wants to climb, she’ll bow to their more broad liberal agenda. If not, we might get a decent shot at being normal politically. We saw how Mitch responded and it was removal of symbol’s of “colonization”. He had higher hopes in DC so he kissed the ring… and felt the need to prove himself by removing statues. That move was straight from the Aspen Institute playbook. Helena told me to my face that this was her last ride. She and her husband Chris would enjoy their lives bring citizens. That means she could stay away from the broader liberal agenda. I have my suspicions though. She’s too telegenic to be ignored.
What we’re getting away from with Helena is a certain carribbenesque laissez-faire style that embodies a sort of corruption where the elected do what they want. They Pay off their own. They have a specific jaded view of “colonizers”. Their culture is more centered on festivals, selling tee shirts, nail and hair salons, HBC, anti policing, and a specific type of entertainment.
Helena can make a push to guide nola economically in a direction that is less sensitive to the whims of the economy. Conferences are nice but they’re the first thing cancelled when economic winds get crossed or a disease sets . We need more depth to our economy. Hint- we have a big arse river right at the end of canal street.
Anyway- long post. I certainly hope for the best with her.

And she went to Episcopal HS in Houston.
As a Houstonian, I am stunned that a blonde rich girl from Episcopal & SMU is the new mayor of New Orleans.

Yes NOLA should have a Republican mayor. Look at how well Louisiana has done with a Republican dominated legislature and now a Republican Governor. Sarcasm intended.

At this point, I’d consider doing something different in New Orleans. That’s just me, but I’d never live much less raise a family in that abysmal shithole of a city.

Being an outsider, I have no extra concerns about New Orleans proper. The wife's family has long since left there.
But, I wonder how the national DNC will look to her. Lord knows the Democratic Party needs (among many other things) a young, attractive candidate. AOC can only get them so far, and she's a looney.
My guess is that they'll start grooming Moreno for higher places, thus she will do many leftist ideological actions.
Sorry, New Orleans.
