By far the best candidate. I think she will surprise some of you.

I agree. Met her a few times and went to a party at her house / condo. She was a decent person who seems to have a good head on her shoulders. At least 10 years ago she did.

And yes, she absolutely seemed like the best choice on the ballot from a distance.

The same was said about Landreau. That turned out to be a shite sandwich. In short, I wouldn’t spike the ball just yet. A smart criminal is exponentially worse than a dumb one.

Why are people surprised that New Orleans elected a democrat?

Literally impossible. All the Democrats in Nola metro specifically only live in New Orleans city limits.

65% - black who are all Dem. Funny because they aren't liberal. Black Dems couldn't care less about Trans rights or gay mairraige
25% - wanna be hipsters from the North East that want to claim New Orleans and French heritage, but simply aren't who live in the Bywater district and some uptown, and they get super mad when you tell them you'll never be true New Orleans if you're not from the state
10% - who are conservative in New Orleans typically live in Uptown and Lakeview

Then the suburbs like Metarie and Kenner and Northshore are almost enitrely conservative.

Jefferson Parish council members Scott Walker and Jennifer VanRanken (both from heavily R areas) have seemed to be pushing Moreno as well (VanRanken actually endorsed her publicly).

Not really they’re RINO’s, want to see a shocker, check the past presidential election and see how much of JP voted for Kamala. The JP politicians are part of the reason we got saddled with JBE. Voters in this state are so dumb and easily fooled by local politicians that put a R behind their name and that can’t be further from the truth.

oliver thomas was typically graceful and conciliatory in his concession speech ...
quote:

"We're going to make sure that New Orleans is the New Orleans it's supposed to be," he said. Thomas did not identify what New Orleans is "supposed to be" but appeared to reference the need to maintain the city's racial demographics. "This city is too important for us to lose it, for us to watch it be diluted," said Thomas, who paused and added: "You got that?"
this is what the alternative was...racial divisiveness and excuse making by a black convicted felon

Just curious, and if germans, mea culpa, but what was the percentage of the parish voters voted?

As Council President and as a former State Legislator, she’s won victories to broaden economic opportunity and knock down barriers for small businesses, increase safety and reform our criminal justice system, promote gender equality, lead on climate action and a cleaner environment, and protect and uplift the most vulnerable in our society. Among her victories for working people include restoring millions in violence interruption funding, massively expanding summer job opportunities, requiring equity and set-asides in City contracting, raising wages and instituting paid leave for all City employees, promoting fair drug policy by decriminalizing cannabis, authoring laws to shield victims of sexual assault, reducing incarceration by preventing unnecessary arrests, restricting weapons from domestic abusers, transforming New Orleans into a renewable energy trailblazer, and pushing to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure both above and below our streets.

So basically more doomed the fail.

None of this will save people with means from continuing to abandon the city. Good luck.

We will see.

I had a conversation with her personally, and she told me that she very much understood that the 3 things people in NOLA care about are Crime (specifically saying we need more policing and to prosecute harder), Roads to be fixed (we need our own roads/construction crew), and Jobs.

And Jobs aren't coming unless the other two are fixed. She said that. I think she is a very progressive and will do very progressive things, but also has some practical streaks

mid 40’s turnout which is an improvement. 60% of registered voters did not vote, however if you want a better New Orleans you really don’t want the majority of that 60% anywhere near a ballot box
