I don’t agree with banning AI memes.

I do think it needs to be clear if we don’t allow for defamation suits related to politicians that something purporting to be someone it isn’t is satire and not real.

Even requiring a chat GPT watermark at the bottom would do it.

I wonder if this includes political cartoons??

If an artist draws it it’s ok?? But if the artist uses AI to draw figures it’s illegal??

Why do you lie?

I give objective analysis, not subjective commentary.

The AI stuff is going to take a long time for courts and society to deal with, from IP to the ownership of the "speech".

How does a state enforce something like this? The content is created by thousands of independent users and shared on international platforms. Seems impossible to control.

What about all the political cartoons over the years?

Great question. Here’s something to layer onto this. One of my friends on X sent me this- "California's new bills signed into law on 9/17/2024 (yes, signed in on Constitution Day!) can be used against everyone. It is called the long-arm statute that allows for a court to obtain personal jurisdiction over out of state defendants."

This would seem a very reasonable approach. Agreed.

No doubt! You have to wonder about this guy.
Undoubtedly, he knows he can't enforce this so why even go thru this exercise when he's going to lose?
He should be telling the public that free speech is a Good given right and government can't take it away, so folks should grow thicker skin.

I was just posting some very general legal issues with AI that are going to take a long time to sort out.

Are you arguing those issues are going to be easy and quickly decided by courts and society or something?
