Fauci should have indeed plead the 5th

He’s a POS and should be held accountable. But why is everyone so shocked and mad at him pleading the 5th?
He was pardoned for assumed crimes of which he wasn’t found guilty nor charged. Thats on shaky ground and may one day be challenged in court.
He can also be charged by states since his pardon was federal.
So if you were in his position, why the hell wouldn’t you plead the 5th?
I have no sympathy for the douche bag but to see all the outrage on here is laughable. The next step is convict him of contempt of congress and then fight in court. Will they do it?

considering the location of the hearing, he violated the law. It was a federal hearing for which he had a federal pardon. He was not legally allowed to plead the 5th. Now it is up to congress to put him in prison like they did with Bannon.

Almost certainly won't be challenged in court. The people who would do this don't want to remove this option for themselves.

Sure, but surely you realize how this makes it appear like an admission of guilt. If he doesn't think he committed crimes, why would he be worried about his pardon-covered testimony leading to criminal prosecutions at the state level? States don't have an unlimited checkbook to prosecute what will absolutely be a long, drawn out case with many levels of appeal.

The risk is greater than a state AG pressing charges because a state AG has nothing to go on from a criminal standpoint.
Fauci's greater liability is that if he said anything in those hearings it could be used to facilitate a perjury charge of things said in that hearing. Yeah, he has a pardon for things he might have done prior to its issuance but he's not protected for things that could have been said yesterday. He did not have immunity going into that hearing. If he had immunity things could have been different and you could prosecute for contempt.

Plenty of people plead the 5th under advice of their legal counsel. Trump and his old pal Epstein have done it plenty of times.

The guy that covers Congress for Fox said this morning that the most the 5th amendment was ever invoked during a Congressional hearing was some mobster back in the 50’s. That guy invoked the 5th a little over 150 times. Fauci invoked the 5th 111 times. So A Dr. in charge of the COVID response during the pandemic had to invoke the 5th almost as many times as some 50’s era gangster lol.

As a high ranking government official, I expect him to be honorable and stand up for the actions and decisions he made while steering the ship for this country. The actions and decisions which led to unprecedented levels of political sabotage and negative impact to the public. It's not that difficult for an 85 year old man to stand up and tell the truth, unless he has something big to hide.

1) he gave a statement after being placed under oath, arguably waiving privilege (especially as to any and all areas touched on my his statement)
and
2) blanket claims of privilege - especially where it was clear that no privilege applied.
His attorneys lead him straight into a contempt trap and it sure seems like Rand is all in on getting the referral to DOJ

He's probably already too old to put in prison. A court case of that magnitude would drag on for 10 years. He is protecting something else.

This is a terrible take as he has a pardon. He cannot plead the 5th with that pardon. Accepting a federal pardon is an act that sets forth certain rules he must obey, which he didn’t. There is already documentation of his perjury on his earlier testimony. Congress lacks the courage to charge people with perjury. I wonder if their backbone starts growing now. A lot of our problems are Congress not having a backbone on anything.
There is also shaky ground on his answering some opening questions, then pleading the 5th once he is asked further questions on those subjects. He can plead the 5th on the outset of those questions (layman’s terms here so it may not be exact).
