All of you people who are upset by this - no one is forcing you to go see the movie. I won't. I'll wait until it is available to stream and still may not watch it even then. But not because of the actress who plays Helen, but because I know it will be grossly overdone.
I'm a history buff, and I've seen a lot of movies with actual historical characters that are not true to the actual history. In fact, most historical films play fast and loose with the actual events.

Helen of Troy would have looked nothing like the actress Nolan cast.
Helen of Troy also would have looked nothing like Diane Kruger.
Helen of Troy was not black, and she wasn't white with blonde hair and blue eyes.
If someone is big on authenticity and is upset about this casting, were you on the record being upset about Diane Kruger?

Also, she wasn’t a real person.

She certainly wasn't Kenyan black, though, was she?

Diane Kruger is actually attractive. Are you queer?

Gal Gadot is the only acceptable middle ground.

She’s a figment of the imagination.

It's the ONE TIME in our lives that a "dark skinned" character from a historical novel has been replaced by a handsome white man, and the entire artsy left is positively SEETHING over it.
Certainly not the one time. In the Broadway production of Miss Saigon they had this same controversy (Jonathan Pryce played the Engineer). Laurence Olivier played Othello. In 2014 Christian Bale played Moses.

How was she described in the Odyssey? It wasn't as a dark-skinned African woman, was it?

It's actually impressive that you can post not only without understanding other people's posts but also not even understanding your own posts.
P.S. it has been shot so you were doubly uninformed.

Well, Nolan cast a basset hound as Bruce Wayne's love interest so I'm not sure he even knows what is attractive.

We need to say to this 15%: frick off. if you don't like it, move to South Africa.
