The original text said she had fair or blonde hair with alabaster skin.
They should have found a young modern day Barbara Eden.
I have the Andy Griffin episode with Barbara Eden as the manicurist at Floyd's.

Actually Greeks, like Italians, are considered Mediterranean and yes, they do have more olive skin

They would re-do Flipper with the Chilean Black Dolphin.

Artistic license is not a hill to die on.
Keep the powder dry for real issues.
The Illiad and the Odyssey are right up there with the Bible and Shakespeare as core founding texts of western civilization. They know exactly what they're doing and it's not just "artistic license."

It's a movie that was made in the hopes of making millions of dollars. Just don't go see it.
edit: or will be made? I guess it hasn't been shot yet.

They did this with Maria in West Side Story too. The outrage here was incredible.

She was described. Fair skinned, not mahogany.
This isn’t going to go Nolan’s way. It’s simply a very bad casting decision, no different than Black Snape.

Good post. You're absolutely right.

Yes, Helen of Troy should be a Greek woman with hairy arms and the vague outline of a mustache that grows and grows thicker through the course of the day.
I’m going with Gal Gadot. Maybe use CGI “enhancement” for the face and body hair.

Yes, they really needed the black moviegoer for The Odyssey to do well.

Most of the movies are crap today anyway. This is one of the many I will miss.

Southern Europeans weren't always swarthy. Ancient Greeks & Romans were fair with features that we now associate with only northern Europeans. What came between was a long period of muslim occupation over southern Europe (Greece, southern Italy, Spain, etc.). Turks and north Africans raping European women for hundreds of years gave us today's swarthly southern Europeans.

Diane Kruger could star reading the McDonald's menu in a McDonald's with little to no make up and it would be pleasing.

I guess whoever wants to make money off the movie thought they did.
The movie is never as good as the book anyway. And movies very frequently stray from the books they are made after.

Didn't you know Helen was a Somali pirate?

Both are built like 12 year-old boys.
Grace Kelly is a "timeless beauty".
Brigitte Bardot is a "timeless beauty".
Margot Robbie is a "timeless beauty."
Keira Knightly & Gwyneth Paltrow may be attractive, but in no sense would they ever make the cut for "timeless beauties".
