I’m against surveillance states in all of its forms.

Flock cameras are just the most obvious and apparent manifestation of it.

If any of this were about protecting citizens about crime our benevolent judicial system wouldn’t be releasing multi conviction felons back on the streets with short sentences.

The only thing the government cares about is protecting itself against the citizens.

It’s why they responded to old ladies in the capital with draconian prison terms and rapist felons with community policing.

You don’t like selective outrage? Cool, me either, so let’s reign in the surveillance state comprehensively.

What will you say when you're labeled a "criminal" because of your political beliefs, and these cameras are unconstitutionally weaponized to persecute and prosecute you?

Don't think about the "right now". Look around, observe the societal and governmental trends, and think about tomorrow.

Look at the post right above yours.

Cameras are just an easier way of doing what that poster wrote.

The second amendment was written for the people to be able to fight a rogue government. Imagine this technology in the hands of a government who has has gone totally rogue. You have been provided examples of rogue officials within our current government.

why else are all these data centers being built - to collect and process all the data being gathered from a growing list of sources

There is no expectation of privacy while you're in public. Hasn't this been ruled on already?

I hear ya. But, it's just as easy to design the system with public, open access to all requests for surveillance, information, tracking, etc

If it's to track the public, fine, but give the public access on who's doing the tracking, period, no exceptions!

Slippery slope. You are guaranteed privacy when out in public, but you do have rights to who gets access to that info, once it's captured. Captured info isnt deemed public, at that point

Looked like about every one of those situations were LE using flock cameras to stalk boyfriends and girlfriends and estranged lovers. Did you look at them? I didn't see any crimes against random people.

I'm not screwing anyone at the police dept, so I have nothing to worry about.

then let me explain to you. The police have to have a reasonable suspicion that you have committed a crime and can articulate that crime before they can force you to identify yourself. Flock cameras identify innocent citizens that commit zero crimes. Its an invasion of privacy and a violation of the 4th amendment to the Constitution. Your face is captured, stored, and identified by AI. Its digital surveillance and its creating a prison for citizens. ZERO PRIVACY

Brilliant explanation, thank you!

And definitely don't shine it into the lenses of flock cameras. People are destroying them by doing this. Bad people. The worst kind, really.

So...people are walking around with Class 4 lasers?
