One of the bizarre things that happens when you get to Congress is that you spend an inordinate amount of time doing stuff for your party to support other candidates, meeting big donors, etc.
I would see my job there to be to craft and read over proposed legislation. Too much of that glad-handing bullshite, especially if they tried to strong-arm me into it, would end up with me telling them to frick the frick off.
Along with that, my partying days are well behind me and I know enough of how dirty DC can be that I would run my office like Billy Graham ran his church (no man alone in a room, even an elevator, with a woman who is not his wife, for example).
This would likely get me black-balled on getting any legislation passed and have my own party gunning to replace me so I would likely be one term and done.

In my mind I would be very ethical. But I know how people work if they don't get their way...........I'd be nominated as the most unethical person on earth.

Easily, but I’m already set and not trying to be somebody.

Greta Van Susterchen did an insider series on following around freshmen in DCs first day.
In even the basics the freshmen were overwhelmed. They were given large staffs, a wasteful amount of laptops, computers, supplies.
You are wine and dined hard. Few would survive. Second night cocktail parties compromise everyone with enough blow to make the world magical.

I'm fairly uncancellable. I have zero skeletons unless my enemies get ahold of some of the stuff I've said on this board. I've never done drugs. I made it through until adulthood before the cell phone or digital images were created. (Even if they had been around in the late 80's it would have captured me in the library studying accounting with a random asian exchange student.).
I'm confident I'd remain ethical. I'm not confident I could survive the hate from half the country.

This, you have to use the enemy’s weapon against them when facing something like this.

Sure. Clip a body cam on and stream that shite live online. Let the world see how these assmonkeys really are.

You would have to be a sap to prostitute yourself for free. You can graft along at an under the radar level and make a cool $500k per year and be set for life after ten years.

Yes, but I also believe I would be Arkancided for it, so I remain in engineering.
This is exactly why we are where we are. In the modern age, anyone with half a brain stays as far away from the political spotlight as possible. Why would you put your family through that?
Only a lunatic would do that.

I would have because I was raised Old School Catholic. We were taught you'd get sentenced to Purgatory for 100 years if you committed a minor sin.

True dat. But does everyone have a price?

It would be extremely challenging.
- not for long.

No. Threatening my family would compromise me. Would need to be devoid of having no one to care about specifically but the American people.

Yes, which is why I wouldn't be a good fit for office; and would never win an election.
I don't have the hustle or the want to campaign and fundraise (grift).

Tommy Casanova, former Tiger great, left the Legislature after serving only one year of his term. He said he was "sickened" by the corruption he experienced every day.

"Ethical".
You mean - don't vote along Constitutional and limited government principles, but submit to a personality?
You mean - favor the long way around that is Constitutional instead of the short way that favors more authoritarianism?

I like to think I could. But do I really know?
I do know that I have never been one to desire significant power. But then, I have also never been presented with an opportunity to see a direct path to power.

I firmly believe I would remain ethical and always do the right thing.
My vision of me in office is to NEVER even talk to anyone else that is a politician. Never talk to lobbyist. Just show up. Vote. Leave. Read emails. Respond to the emails. That is it.
