Did they even put up a defense?

Sure. He's black and everybody else is a racist.

Anthony has been practicing for prison by holding his attorney's pocket as he walks into court. During breaks he sits down to pee.

I agree.

The defense suffered a huge setback earlier today after one of the teen's teammates appeared to backtrack on claims that Anthony had been surrounded by a group of students when he fatally stabbed Metcalf.

Last week, defense lawyers suggested Metcalf may have impaled himself on Anthony's knife.

Multiple witnesses, including several teens present at the meet, trashed Anthony's self-defense claim when the trial began last Thursday and contended that he had a folding knife ready in his hands as Metcalf stood near him to push him.

I think Melo's supporters gaslit that family into believing he was righteous and they just arrogantly plowed ahead.
Melo

They're going with the "He didn't have the obstructionistic, racist-rigged 'jury-of-his-peers' that he's entitled to!"

I am being sarcastic... that's what the defense insisted on calling him to make him look more relatable or something.

I call him Stabby.

If you weren't paying attention, their witnesses could have easily been the prosecution's.

How do you even know this?

This trial is going pretty quickly, huh?

Guess all the evidence is pretty straightforward.

Prosecution rested Saturday (weird day, right?). Defense rests today. Assuming yesterday the court was closed.

Really this is a slam dunk and the kid should be looking at 30-50 (since the defendant was 17 at the time, TX law prevents seeking the death penalty or life in prison- I disagree with this but it is what it is). We'll see what the jury thinks as far as verdict and sentence recommendation.

It is certainly flying along at a much more expedient pace than I anticipated. Hopefully closing arguments and deliberations are just as quick.

The defense's six witnesses they DID call absolutely did not help anything. That goose is cooked.

That would only get a mistrial. They will re-try this one, as many times as it takes I'd imagine.

My disgust was not targeted at you. I detected the disdain in your text. The only hope for the defense is that the Judge allows him to use it in arguments over the sentencing when he has to pitch Anthony as a fine upstanding student momentarily under the spell of the white devil!

They knew he was guilty. They didn't care to try to defend him

Given how strong the case is for the prosecution + the demographics of the jury pool, there is about a 0.0% chance of an acquittal.

Sure you can get a protestor here or there to cause a mistrial, but considering (1) this is a murder (2) of an innocent teen (3) making national news that (4) is a prohibitively strong case, they will set a new trial after any theoretical hung jury occurs until they get the conviction.
