Here's a definition of a cult I found:
Calvary Chapel is pretty solidly in the category of an Evangelical church. I don't think they meet any of the criteria listed in the definition of a cult
quote:
A cult is an organized group whose purpose is to dominate cult members through psychological manipulation and pressure strategies. Cults are usually headed by a powerful leader who isolates members from the rest of society.
Experts suggest that this coercive control distinguishes these groups, not their connection to specific faiths, religions, or belief systems.
Such groups demand excessive devotion from members. They utilize unethical and manipulative techniques to persuade and control members. Their primary goal is to advance the group leader's agenda, even though such goals may harm individuals, families, and communities.

Sounds like a dad taking his anger out on the ex by using the kid as a pawn, old as divorce itself.

90% of custody orders give only one parent the right to control religious education.quote:
Wrong.
You are correct that it is not awarded to only one parent, when it is not contested. In that case it is usually shared. I thought that was obvious, but I guess not.

When I saw that your link was from the Western Journal, a company with a long history of fake news, I figured there must be more to the story. Did not take me long to find that there was.
This local new article has more detail about the case.

quote:
after the child began attending Calvary Chapel of Portland, she started having severe panic attacks and exhibited alarming psychological signs — like leaving notes around the house that said "the rapture is coming." Her father said much of her concern came from believing her sister and father would not go to heaven because they did not attend the same church as her.
quote:
attorneys argued the case boils down to the familiar legal principle: when there is documented harm, the court may act to protect the child’s best interest — even if it means limiting a parent’s religious education rights.
"The courts also say we don't have to wait for it to be so severe that a child suffers irreparable emotional harm,"

Children belong to the state according to the left.
That’s why they also fight so hard against home schooling.

Will they raid the pastors home with tanks busting the windows burning all alive?
Yet epsteins cult at zorro ranch was just fine because the CIA ran it?

Ironically, without an objective truth (and I’m not a Calvary Chapel supporter in any way) this ruling and the argument on which it is based have no ground.
no it's a simple matter of a custody case both parents have rights here,
obviously the father doesn't want her exposed to that goofy a*s talking in tongues bullschit that you protestants invented out of thin air.
the calvary chapel association is an ancient tradition dating back to 1965!
i know i wouldn't my daughter exposed to that crap.

frick the idea that you need a disclaimer like this.
Short of actual documented physical harm, you have the parental right to put your kid in any “cult” you may choose.

It's all fun and games with morons labeling anything they disagree with as a cult, until the courts start agreeing.

Exactly
clickbait headline, and a story which excludes all of the important facts. Gullible villagers take the bait.
lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Yes ask the Professor about Islam. If that doesn't meet the definition of a cult...what does?

A father has no say in stopping the mother from getting an abortion, but he does have the right to force the mother to not take the child to church?

The Constitution clearly tells the courts to butt out. That includes you. If you don't care to do as they do that's your right. But you don't have the right to tell them how to worship.

Ordinarily I'd stand with the Constitution, but IMO Islam is a Death Cult. Any religion that tells you to kill and enslave anyone that is not one of you? Should not be allowed here.

Moms do the same thing if not worse.
There's the kid in TX who's mom move him to CA so she can transition him. Evil.
