Conversation with a trucker

He told me Diesel had reached $7 a gallon in parts of central Ohio and was only going higher. I did not realize it was that expensive since I have a gas and an ev. The guy seemed worried about the long-term costs and how it will affect his career.

People are too stupid to understand the conflict in Iran will not last forever and prices will come down, probably to lower levels than we’ve seen in a few decades.

By conversation, do you mean giving him head in the back of his cab as you bartered over the price?

Your “trucker” must be rounding up or is an idiot not using a fleet card. I just looked at Ohio, and with my fleet card the highest is $6.91 at a Love’s which everyone knows usually has the highest price. There’s a Speedway near that at $6.12.
Diesel is high but will come down.

The trucker you talked with has a lot more to be worried about than the cost of diesel fuel. The price of diesel will eventually drop but there is a real possibility in the next 5-10 years a large number of trucking jobs will be eliminated due to a fully automated logistics network, where trucks have no driver, where workers needed in a warehouse are 10% of what was required just 5 years ago. I don't see any way this isn't coming sooner rather than later.

Do enlighten us how this "conflict" that you Trump worshippers said would be over in two weeks is going to end and why prices will suddenly be lower, Mr. Brilliance.

Talked to my dad today who is in NE Ohio around Canton and he said the same thing FWIW

according to your profile you're a teacher, understandably your money is tight, providing sexual "comfort" to long haul truckers seems like for someone like you an easy way to make extra money.
good luck!

I think this is the hope, but remember we ended up in the middle east for roughly 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. Once you stir up that hornet's nest an exit strategy can be hard to find.
And just because oil/fuel prices do tend to fluctuate (IE go up and down) the price of most goods never seems to go back down accordingly once the oil prices go back down.
By your logic, if we get back to the oil prices of 2019, then the price of all products would go back down to 2019 prices, which simply isn't the case.
Once businesses get a taste of charging a certain price, for a certain product, there is a new minimum baseline the consumer pays.
The price of diesel is also heavily influenced by the global market and the Ukraine attacks on Russian diesel refineries are a big factor also.

At this point, what will you consider a success in Iran?

How did this alleged truck driver handle 2022 and 2023?
Why didn't you make a thread in 2022 or 2023 voicing your concern about diesel prices?
