“I don’t think that the government should ever be stepping into the place of the parents in helping to move their children through a process where those children are confused or concerned about their gender. And I just would say the parents are the people who are best positioned to make these judgments. And so what I’d like to make sure each state does is require that parents be involved in these decisions.
“The fact is, that folks who are under the age of 18 should have parental support and guidance and love as they make all of the key decisions of their life. And this should not be one that’s excluded by the government in any way.”

Texas is one of them, and don't think for a moment there isn't an outcry from parents who have to travel up to 1,000 miles to obtain gender-affirming care for a child born with the wrong apparatus. It's on each one of the local news networks, at least two or three times/week.
Gender-affirming care, like marriage and abortion, is another cultural wedge issue that Republicans always seem to be on the wrong side of.

It is an irreversible life altering procedure. If I’m wrong, they can transition a few years later when they’re old enough to legally make their own choices. If you’re wrong, we’ve fricked them up for the rest of their lives. I’m ok with being in the wrong side of history on this one.
