Their dominance of rare earth elements means many of our key industries can’t function without Chinese permission to do so.

That means that for now, we kowtow to them (student visas?).

Well, at least until we either find alternate sources, or bring our own sources online.

The good news is that the latter is occurring. The bad news is that is a year out at a minimum.

This is currently happening.

Let’s hope that the calendar is kind.

Not sure about 20 years but People say it because it’s true.
China has necessary rare earth materials needed for the batteries that run the electric cars.
High gas prices alwsys give incentive to drive non gas vehicles.

China benefits

This is at least a more real valid excuse for Trump putting China dick in his mouth. It’s better than the weak Americans won’t do these jobs

There's always some really bad takes on this board

China needs us too

The necessary rare earth is trash as we have all the rare earth deposits needed. The rub is the refining process which environmentalist and lawyers use current laws to beat them over the head with.

Then the price of electricity goes up, start getting weird charges on your electric bill etc, cost more to charge at a charging station. People who think that won't happen are fricking clueless

This. Deregulate and get rid of all the bullshite "carbon credits" and green mandates, this wouldn't be a problem for making steel, mining coal, or for most of the US industry that has been killed off by domestic suicide.

Well, there has to be some reasons why Trump is very much pro 500,000 Chinese students.

So yeah, if there was good news, he would be the first to announce it.

I'm old enough to remember 6 years ago when everybody was freaking out to learn that China was making practically all our antibiotics and promised to change that.

That's why I laugh when people say we are "checking" China by taking control of their oil. They could kill a lot of people here by shutting off the medication supply.

China has access to sources outside of the U.S. at the same (or similar) price points. They also claim to have their own source. This hasn’t been verified, and I don’t trust China, but who knows.
Additionally, the Chinese have been stockpiling HPQ for years. Conversely, we have NOT been stockpiling rare earths.

What posted SHOULD be a bargaining chip (being able to withhold HPQ, currently is not.

Oil is our only leverage point, hence (I believe) us being in Venezuela and Iran.

As for my take, given what is known, my take is on point.

No, not even close. They don't control theirs much.

Some meds…yes.

India has really cut into that though.

Nonetheless, I agree with your take in that we need to onshore the production of prescription medications.

Retarded environmental policies have been suicidal for the US economy.

They own our industry, our ag markets are dependent on them and they're buying up our food industry and land a little bit at a time. They're undercutting what innovation we have left through constant theft and cheating the market.

There's no "for now". That's just a bunch of spin to soften Trump's obvious capitulation. We've lost that war and we did it for greed. They played us easily and won. Trump's ego was the last barrier and he needed to get re-elected to "win". We lost.
