There's a pretty famous set of illustrations that indicate how wrong we'd be if we tried recreating extant species based on their skeletal data alone. I'll see if I can find it.

Nailed it. Maybe we have enough examples of wolves/canines living today that they're pretty close on these ones specifically, but it still wouldn't shock me for them to be completely wrong.

It'd be approximately the size of a pony.

A pony?

Three and a half feet off the ground is not the size people think of when they hear “pony”.

Primitive wolves were very nocturnal. Your pet wolf is going to be awake and howling all night and sleeping all day. Your neighbors might have an issue.

What happens if all of their predictions about how these should look turn out to be wrong?

Not only looks, but temperament and animal instinct turn out to be wrong and they wreak havoc.

The dire wolf has been extinct for over 10,000 years.

There has long been a devoted minority that claims, with some anecdotal and circumstantial but also a bit of empirical evidence, that isolated pockets of dire wolves endured.

Wolves are the undisputed alpha masters of the cold, and the dire wolves of the last ice age would have had no issues surviving in the most isolated areas of places like Siberia.

I'm agnostic about it.

As far as bringing them back from extinction? What could go wrong. A single tundra wolf can and will easily overpower any grown man. Why not introduce the tundra wolf's behemoth cousin back into the wild, the cousin that can bring down a cow, elk or moose on his own. The cousin that brown bears fear. Hell, let's bring back Saber toothed cats while we're at it.

seems unnecessary as this is not about bring them back to the wild, the story goes into detail from the CEO that this all about them studying how to clone. The animals will live in a zoo and be a living test lab. So in the end, it's about the CEO making big bucks. I hope the thing turns on them, kills the CEO and a bunch of the nerd handlers and they have to put them down. Don't frick with nature, these things are not here for a reason
