re: Big Bang theory wrong? Star older than Universe discovered - threat of ‘scientific crisis’

Truth is nobody really knows anything for sure. All the best scientific theories will be ridiculed in a few centuries for being ridiculously wrong.

That’s how science works, isn’t it? If new data calls previous conclusions into question, new insights are gained and knowledge expands.
If the data indeed causes questioning of the timeline, then a new theory will have to be developed which accounts for the data.
Is this controversial?

Are they saying the Bible was written by a guy named Jesus while he was incarcerated in a Mexican prison a few hundred years ago?

this is called cosmological oscillation and it's not a viable theory for multiple reasons, one being that there isn't going to be a "big crunch." the universe expansion is increasing meaning the universe will die a heat death eventually
I want to say 25 years ago, maybe 30, I was extremely fascinated by these concepts, reasonably intelligent and imaginative, and had a lot of time to read up on things. By no means a mathematical genius or theorist, but I had a pretty decent handle on the concepts of the day.
What little I've looked into things recently, a lot of that stuff I learned has been discredited and scrapped.
I suspect in 25 more years, there will be a greater understanding, and lots of accepted speculation today will again be discarded.
I mean, consider- lots of particles etc are considered "real", because you have intricate equations with known data, and there are holes in the equation. You plug in a variable that makes things work, and you declare that variable to exist... when the only evidence it does, is that the equation requires it.
Maybe the equation is close, but off.

But the Science is settled! BIG BANG DENIER!

Eh nothing here invalidates the big bang
You sound kinda dumb tbh

They need to stop. These science deniers who are questioning settled science should be silenced.

My favorite part of this whole charade is that they think they “know” how much iron a star has that far away and how old it actually is.

but are they wrong?
There are multiple theories about the non-existence of time. They have nothing to do with the belief of God or lack thereof.

Methuselah star”, or scientifically called HD 140283, is situated about 200 million lightyears away and has stumped experts.
Pretty sure that's been thoroughly covered by "experts"

Analysis of the star showed that it contained very little iron content
Hmmmm. Some of yall gonna be a tad upset when you find out what else is bright as a star and has very little iron content

0.7 billion years older than the Universe
And is older than the 'known universe'
quote:
Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. The wall was constructed of jasper, while the structures were pure gold, clear as glass.
The foundations were every precious stone; the first course of stones was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh hyacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
The gates were pearl, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the streets were of pure gold, transparent as glass.
There was no need of sun or moon, for God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb.
jus' sayin'

Not quite as mysterious as we thought! Turns out the truth isn't quite crazy as it has been cracked up to be.
This star has not been pegged with an age older than the universe is thought to be. Actually the estimates for the star give a range of years. And only part of that range is outside of the age of the universe.
So scientist have so far found that its possible age actually could be within the time scale of our universe!

How did God come to be? What/who created God?

We will never be able to conceptualize or understand everything. It is better to just embrace the mystery instead.

I don't find this a big deal. It could be that the dark energy has changed over time causing the expansion to speed up or slow down. They've known for decades that the expansion rate is increasing.
Also they used to put the age at over 14 billion years before they refined it to 13.8 billion. Could be earlier estimates were correct.
