I’m for this. But term limits and a binding ethics code should apply to congress as well.

I don't think he really wants to go there.

Why? Who's gonna charge a democratic president with anything? This is just for Republican presidents to go to jail.

The media and CIA/FBI nor Congress don't give two shits which laws Biden or any other democrat breaks.

Yes and pass by 2/3rds in both if it involves constitution change if memory serves me correct…which would never happen

And then 34 states would have to ratify it within a certain time frame.

Very difficult to amend the constitution.

Newsflash for those writing this stuff for him: SCOTUS term limits would take an Amendment as well.

In other words, he is trying to push not one but TWO Amendments before he leaves office in November?

Talk about ridiculous wastes of time.

Biden formally unveils plan to overhaul Supreme Court — with focus on limiting Trump’s powers

President Biden formally unveiled his planned overhaul of the Supreme Court on Monday — with a clear eye on limiting the powers of former President Donald Trump should he succeed him.

The commander-in-chief took the unusual step of unveiling his major planned policy steps in a newspaper op-ed, with the Washington Post helpfully telling readers: “The writer is president of the United States.”

The president laid out three main changes to the court — which he said is “mired in a crisis of ethics” — including term limits and a binding code of conduct.

Biden penned the opinion piece for the Washington Post.

However, the main focus was the court’s recent decision to grant Trump broad immunity for any crimes committed in office.

“This nation was founded on a simple yet profound principle: No one is above the law. Not the president of the United States. Not a justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. No one,” Biden wrote.

“But the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision on July 1 to grant presidents broad immunity from prosecution for crimes they commit in office means there are virtually no limits on what a president can do.

“The only limits will be those that are self-imposed by the person occupying the Oval Office.”

Making clear he was alarmed at Trump returning to office, he wrote: “If a future president incites a violent mob to storm the Capitol and stop the peaceful transfer of power — like we saw on Jan. 6, 2021 — there may be no legal consequences.”

In addition to his so-called No One Is Above The Law Amendment, Biden proposed term limits for Supreme Court justices, advocating for the president to be able to appoint a new justice every two years to spend 18 years in active service on the high court.

Biden also called for a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court, writing that the court’s current voluntary ethics code is “weak and self-enforced.”

“Justices should be required to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest. Every other federal judge is bound by an enforceable code of conduct, and there is no reason for the Supreme Court to be exempt,” he wrote.

He claimed the “majority” of Americans support these reforms, which would help prevent the abuse of presidential powers.

“We can and must prevent the abuse of presidential power. We can and must restore the public’s faith in the Supreme Court. We can and must strengthen the guardrails of democracy,” Biden wrote.

Biden ended his op-ed: “In America, no one is above the law. In America, the people rule.”

Biden formally unveiled his plan via an Op-Ed in WaPo.

We are all suppose to magically forget Biden can't form a cohesive sentence was ruled mentally unfit to stand trial?

Who wrote this, Obama himself, or one of the brown shirts Obama placed to run Biden?

Here are some specifics of his SCOTUS term limits and ethics code:
quote:

Regarding the Supreme Court, Biden wants to impose a term limit of 18 years for justices. Once fully adopted, it would allow presidents to appoint new justices at a cadence of once every two years.

quote:

Biden argued the new Supreme Court code of conduct should require justices to "disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity, and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest."

LINK

So someone help me out with the math here. How does putting an 18 year term limit equate to presidents being able to appoint a new justice every 2 years? Are they going to somehow retroactively stagger the current justices so that their terms come up every 2 years? Or are they just sneaking in the ability for the president to stack the court every 2 years?

The last impediment to the radical agenda is the court. So obviously they want to destroy that.

While we're on the subject, so the only things on his list are political power issues?

SCOTUS? Political prosecutions?

Nothing about prices, inflation, security, safety, the border, i.e. the issues voters care about?

Nice work, Joe.

He proposes, Trump opposes and Republicans defeat it. Dems will claim they tried to clean it up, but blame Republicans for wanting a crooked court.

Yep definitely nothing else important going on in the country or in the world right now.

Who needs to worry about inflation, housing market, student test scores, homelessness, fentanyl, the border, etc. when you can focus on Orange Man being bad

I don’t think this has much of a chance of happening but the real reason for doing this is to make it a campaign issue.

term limits and ethics are one of those things both sides agree are a good thing but also neither will agree too while the other one is in power or they have the upper hand in the SCOTUS.

My guess is its a ploy to get ethics rule passed. Ask for the moon then compromise with "ethics" for the supreme court, who could argue that??????

GOP will cower it will affect their election and give it to them. Then ethics violations of every conservative judge, and scare the rest of them to vote left on every issue.

Will complete our victory of becoming more corrupt than Venezuela
