One of the big differences is that what happened during Watergate was illegal and none of this appears to be illegal. That's a very big distinction when you're trying to use superlatives like that

The investigation got pen registers, which are a completely different thing than wiretaps

I think people are drawing a distinction between the type of overbearing LEO activities us normal folk deal with, and political ongoings. And they’re treating them as very different circumstances.
We can’t really distinguish between affected parties out here in the real world.
But when elected or politically appointed parties are doing this, and it seems like a pattern, and the other side doesn’t seem to be doing it, people will naturally raise eyebrows.
I’m not quite sure it’s fair to then wrap back around and say well the right is partly at fault for overbearing LEOs.
1. I’m not sure the two things I described are the same at all.
2. I personally do not think the right doing anything to pull back police power in the country would stop the left from doing what they do here.
And forget what’s legal for a second. Why are you constantly in a position to have to defend(defend might be too strong a word but work with me here) these types of actions by the left? At some point the legal intricacies of these things shouldn’t matter to us and the only thing worth talking about is how do we get out from under the left’s grip.
