re: Anti AR15 people: How is the AR15 functionally different than any other semiauto rifle?

I would rejoice. Because it takes more than a majority of citizens to repeal a constitutional amendment

Maybe in the event of banning all guns but that isn't even a serious agenda.
No, in the event of something as silly as an AR ban. The minute Congress tries it the lawsuits will come forward, and Heller will be the justification.
Which I venture to guess is why we didn't see any gun control legislation when the dems owned the executive and congress.

Impossible? The president is pretty well protected. Celebrities are pretty well protected. Sporting events are pretty well protected.
You are saying it is impossible to protect a school from 1 person with a firearm? Come one now.

"Nobody outside of the military has a legit reason to own a large capacity magazine. They shouldn't be legal."
As a technical matter, you're almost on to something that could make a significant difference is the casualty count in mass shootings. It's not high capacity mags, though, that would really make a difference. You would have to ban detachable magazines. They're just too easy and fast to load to make any appreciable difference in this scenario, even if limited to ten (or 12, etc.). Make someone have to reload one shell at a time (or carry cumbersome, multiple loaded weapons), and you would slow the killer down. I posted about this the other day, but no real discussion ensued. Problem: a BUNCH of popular guns have detachable magazines. Problem for those who wish to maximize 2A rights: it may be fun - and easy - to point out the absurdities of the current gun control proposals, but eventually the proposals may make more sense, at least a technical matter.

Yes, unfortunately there is that much ignorance in the world.

It takes maybe 1 second to drop a 10 round mag and replace it with another, maybe 1 second to drop the bolt. So that is 20 rounds availabe in 2 seconds, 30 rounds available in 4 seconds.
OK Uncle Rico. Maybe the kid who shot up the high school is not the expert you are. Chances are he wouldn't have gotten the same number of rounds fired if he had to reload every 8-10 shots vs. 30. Let rounds fired = less people shot.

What constitutues a ‘legit reason’? Remember, the 2A is not about hunting nor recreation
Most people when they are defending themselves or their family don’t want less ammo in their guns.
There are current limits on what weaponry a private citizen can legally own. Maybe a ban on high capacity magazines would be deemed unconstitutional by the SC. I'd like to find out if it would.

Or maybe he just buys one off the streets since we have hundreds of millions of them already in circulation.

"Chances are..."
Meaning, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Name them, and why you think they're illegal to own.

How many guards would be needed per school to guarantee that a kid with a gun wasn't able to get off a single shot?
Do you know how many public schools there are in the country? Multiply that number by the number from my first question. It's not realistic.

What small arms weaponry is banned at the Federal level? Even full auto is allowed with the proper paperwork.
If you start talking about bombs and tanks it might be an excellent time for you to regroup.
Also, can you give examples of legally owned automatic weapons used in shootings? You made the claim and I would like to understand it.

Can you guarantee that once AR style rifles are banned that not one more innocent child will be murdered in our schools?

It’s more realistic than gun bans and confiscation. It will also be more effective and cheaper.

Or just makes as many as he wants with a 3D printer.

1) It looks "scary" (Liberals cry at the sight of one)
2) Typically has larger magazines
3) Pistol Grip
4) Typical has a muzzle brake or flash suppressor

Outlaw 3D printers too. Take no chances.

Mills, too.
Better just make plastic and metal illegal while we're at it. Can't be too careful.

LOL. Laws are passed daily because they will theoretically solve or improve a problem. This would be no different. I can 100% guarantee that if you stood two people side by side with the same rifle, one with a 30 round magazine, and the other with an 8 round magazine, the guy with the 30 round mag will put more rounds in the air per minute.

I'm pretty sure I can't own one of these.
